give me the best (worst) you've got
Sep. 21st, 2009 08:48 amAfter a lot of posts about creative names and spellings and such...
Do YOU have a creative name? Do you know someone who does? How does she/he deal with it?
The only one I can think of is a kid I work with. He goes by Jeff; that's the spelling he has on his name tag, the spelling he uses on Facebook.. the spelling I would assume he had if I hadn't seen the legal version written on the schedule: Jephthe. Oy.

Date: 2009-09-21 01:37 pm (UTC)I'm a teacher, so I've seen some names in my time. :) The most creative was Ky-Jaya. I tried to type out how to pronounce it and I can't even figure out what letters to use for the J sound. :/

Date: 2009-09-21 01:39 pm (UTC)I mean, my best friend in high school was named Russell. That was a bit odd for him because it's mostly a last name, especially with that spelling, but that's about it.
I did meet a lady with the name Paralee, though. I asked her out to pronouce it and she said "Para-Lee, like, a Pair A Levi's." I've never heard or see the name since.
I can say I feel sorry with those with unusual spelling, though. My name is Savanah. I have to spell it out to EVERYONE. And EVERYONE gets it wrong. It's either because there is only one N or because there is an H at the end. I think my husband was the only person to write it out right the first time...that made me so happy, LOL. But other than him, everyone messes it up. Some people have even tried to spell it with a B instead of a V. It's quite annoying that my name is so complicated for people and I've gotten pretty used to getting mail from companies, etc with my name misspelled. It was especially hard until my late teens because the name just wasn't used. I used to hate my name because it was "Weird" and in the 90's, it was. I never met anyone with that name, until I hit my teens and parents would be yelling at or talking to their kids in stores, and these little 3 year olds had my name...I couldn't figure out why the lady was yelling at me! Still, I've only heard it a handful of times, and only once on a girl around my age.
