My Great Grandma Parthena (Gramma Valya) married Michel (pronounce Michele). They had three sons named Tanas (pronounced Tuh-nahsh), Yura (my grandpa) and Nikola (Colya).

*Edit* Parthena is Greek, Michel is Russian, and they raised their children in Turkey, so the names may have Turkish influence. Nikola is definitely Russian.

What are the ethnic backgrounds of some of the names in your families?

What is the ethnicity of that side of your family?

I have lots of Amelias, Louisas, Charlottas and Isabels from both the German/Eastern European side and the Irish/British side.

The men were commonly named Levi, Conrad, Peter and John.

My mom is a fantastic geneaology researcher so I have a wonderful family tree to browse for names. And I love family names!

my dad's father is 100% italian. his parents were pietro and isabella. they had three children and named them: sergio (my grandfather, who goes by george for whatever reason), rose, & pietro.
my dad's mother is canadian and has all sorts of european mixed up in her. her parents were alexander and olive (who went by her middle name, which was marion). they had three children and named them jane marion (my grandmother), donald, & bruce.
my grandparents (jane & george) named my father peter alexander after his grandfathers. his sisters were judith marion, margaret isabelle, and susan jane.

Mostly Italian.
My father is Clement- the most ethnic name in his generation.
My grandfather's name is Ernest. My grandmother's is Theresa (Tess).
My grandfather's father & mother were Ernest and Emma. Ernest, Sr's father was Donato. Emma was English, and I don't know her extended family's names.
My grandmother, Theresa- her mother was Anna and her father was Clement. Theresa had two sisters- Marie and Helen.

That's as ethnic as the names on that side go. My mother's side is Hungarian and Romanian, but the names aren't particularly ethnic.

Trygve is my grandpa's middle name. That's the only name with a strong relationship to our heritage (Norwegian there, I'm also Swedish and German) without going way way back. My great-grandparents on one side were Halvor and Ella, I suppose Halvor is rather unsual as well.

There are a shitload of Ottos on my dad's side of the family because they're all Danish. There's a Paul Erik, also a very Danish name, and my great-grandfather was the last of about eight Knute Otto's in a row. The next was Otto Knute and then the chain was broken.

I'd never name my kids Otto or Knute, but the Danish names are pretty cool and I'd consider some of them.

Are the names you posted Greek? They sound (and look!) very Greek, with those Y's and such.

My dad is Jerzy, my mom is Ariadna, my grandmother is Zofia and so on.
Those are all Polish.
And then you have the four of us kids (Holland, Eleanor, Breckan and Maelyn) who's names have nothing to do with tradition.

Nothing very interesting...
Biblical, English, names that are so common/classic the average person has no idea where they come from.

We're British; Scottish/Anglo-Saxon [from back in the day] on Dad's side, and just English [far as me know] on mum's side. Though her father's family were Welsh.
