My Great Grandma Parthena (Gramma Valya) married Michel (pronounce Michele). They had three sons named Tanas (pronounced Tuh-nahsh), Yura (my grandpa) and Nikola (Colya).

*Edit* Parthena is Greek, Michel is Russian, and they raised their children in Turkey, so the names may have Turkish influence. Nikola is definitely Russian.

What are the ethnic backgrounds of some of the names in your families?

Are the names you posted Greek? They sound (and look!) very Greek, with those Y's and such.

My dad is Jerzy, my mom is Ariadna, my grandmother is Zofia and so on.
Those are all Polish.
And then you have the four of us kids (Holland, Eleanor, Breckan and Maelyn) who's names have nothing to do with tradition.
