Jun. 6th, 2006 08:45 amMy Great Grandma Parthena (Gramma Valya) married Michel (pronounce Michele). They had three sons named Tanas (pronounced Tuh-nahsh), Yura (my grandpa) and Nikola (Colya).
*Edit* Parthena is Greek, Michel is Russian, and they raised their children in Turkey, so the names may have Turkish influence. Nikola is definitely Russian.
What are the ethnic backgrounds of some of the names in your families?

Date: 2006-06-06 03:54 pm (UTC)I have lots of Amelias, Louisas, Charlottas and Isabels from both the German/Eastern European side and the Irish/British side.
The men were commonly named Levi, Conrad, Peter and John.
My mom is a fantastic geneaology researcher so I have a wonderful family tree to browse for names. And I love family names!

Date: 2006-06-06 04:25 pm (UTC)My father is Clement- the most ethnic name in his generation.
My grandfather's name is Ernest. My grandmother's is Theresa (Tess).
My grandfather's father & mother were Ernest and Emma. Ernest, Sr's father was Donato. Emma was English, and I don't know her extended family's names.
My grandmother, Theresa- her mother was Anna and her father was Clement. Theresa had two sisters- Marie and Helen.
That's as ethnic as the names on that side go. My mother's side is Hungarian and Romanian, but the names aren't particularly ethnic.

Those are all Polish.
And then you have the four of us kids (Holland, Eleanor, Breckan and Maelyn) who's names have nothing to do with tradition.

We're British; Scottish/Anglo-Saxon [from back in the day] on Dad's side, and just English [far as me know] on mum's side. Though her father's family were Welsh.
