My Great Grandma Parthena (Gramma Valya) married Michel (pronounce Michele). They had three sons named Tanas (pronounced Tuh-nahsh), Yura (my grandpa) and Nikola (Colya).

*Edit* Parthena is Greek, Michel is Russian, and they raised their children in Turkey, so the names may have Turkish influence. Nikola is definitely Russian.

What are the ethnic backgrounds of some of the names in your families?

There are a shitload of Ottos on my dad's side of the family because they're all Danish. There's a Paul Erik, also a very Danish name, and my great-grandfather was the last of about eight Knute Otto's in a row. The next was Otto Knute and then the chain was broken.

I'd never name my kids Otto or Knute, but the Danish names are pretty cool and I'd consider some of them.
