My Great Grandma Parthena (Gramma Valya) married Michel (pronounce Michele). They had three sons named Tanas (pronounced Tuh-nahsh), Yura (my grandpa) and Nikola (Colya).

*Edit* Parthena is Greek, Michel is Russian, and they raised their children in Turkey, so the names may have Turkish influence. Nikola is definitely Russian.

What are the ethnic backgrounds of some of the names in your families?

on my fathers side, i have swedish names, my great grandparents were gustav (which i just found out was pronounced guss-tuv, not goo-stav, like i always thought) and kristina.

my mother was part of a big irish family and her siblings all had/have irish names, colleen, kathleen, john francis, etc.

and thats all i know of my extended family, i dont know what my maternal great grandparents names were, but i know they were from scotland, holland and ireland.
