My Great Grandma Parthena (Gramma Valya) married Michel (pronounce Michele). They had three sons named Tanas (pronounced Tuh-nahsh), Yura (my grandpa) and Nikola (Colya).

*Edit* Parthena is Greek, Michel is Russian, and they raised their children in Turkey, so the names may have Turkish influence. Nikola is definitely Russian.

What are the ethnic backgrounds of some of the names in your families?

Trygve is my grandpa's middle name. That's the only name with a strong relationship to our heritage (Norwegian there, I'm also Swedish and German) without going way way back. My great-grandparents on one side were Halvor and Ella, I suppose Halvor is rather unsual as well.
