My Great Grandma Parthena (Gramma Valya) married Michel (pronounce Michele). They had three sons named Tanas (pronounced Tuh-nahsh), Yura (my grandpa) and Nikola (Colya).

*Edit* Parthena is Greek, Michel is Russian, and they raised their children in Turkey, so the names may have Turkish influence. Nikola is definitely Russian.

What are the ethnic backgrounds of some of the names in your families?

yeah, same with us. its all boring Anglo-saxon stuff, and disciple/apostle names. and we are Irish/Scottish/English... in america for 200 years. even my husbands Lebanese grandparents and great-grandparents had english names! what gives?
