Hehe.

So, what would you do if someone who you'd talked about baby names with a lot suddenly announced that a name you had told them was a top and definite name for you was definitely going to be their child's name? If it matters, the name had never occurred to them til you told it to them. It's not an unusual name at all, but is a bit uncommon.

Would you use what you planned to be say your second daughter's name on your first daughter, just to 'lock it in'? Or would you just not use it at all? What if it's a middle name?

Eh, okay, if context matters-- )

Okay.. my husband, not knowing I was posting here, just randomly suggested we name our next child Queso Crunchwrap Hand. Maybe I need to worry less about people stealing our names and more about his sanity..

Which do you prefer: Erin Jeanne or Erin Jessica?

New guy at work-- Remington  nn Rem.  Late teens- early twenties, I think.  I don't really like it and I feel like it doesn't fit him very well.  I also keep wanting to call him 'Remmy'  but I get the feeling he wouldn't like it very much.

Anyway, WDYT?

"Maybe you're sick of fashion. Fed up with fads. Perhaps all the creativity and invention with names is beginning to feel like anything but that to you. For your child, you want a straightforward, down-to-earth, no-nonsense name. You want a name with history, but also one that's honest, that's not putting on airs. Some of the names here - let's face it, Hilda - are a little flat-footed. But many sound appealingly simple and fresh compared with the rich diet of Dakotas and Donatellas the world of baby-naming has been feasting on"

The aunt of the little girl I babysit for has been thinking of boy's names.

The only one I've heard is Diego. I kind of like it, but there's Go, Diego, Go! and I wouldn't name my kid that because of that connotation. And she's thinking the same thing...

My husband and I are having serious problems coming up with names. So far I've got these to pick from:

Girl
Sophia
Sienna
Brielle

Middle name will definitely be Marie for a girl. I know it's classified as "filler" but our grandmothers both share this name and we want to keep it in the family.

Boy:
Chase
Liam
Owen

Have no idea what middle names for the boys would be. I love Lucas, but that doesn't really work with these names.

I know they're really popular, but apparently my husband is oblivious. Any thoughts on these names or suggestions for other names he might like?

Thanks!

These names are sort of the inverse of the names I posted yesterday... Names that are falling in popularity.  Some of these names are very recently dying fads, and some of these have been decreasing in popularity for quite some time and will seem "old-fashioned" to the next generation.  It is quite a long list.  I'm posting the boys now, and girls sometime in the future.

I recently have decided I really like the name Gwen, but I'd use it as a nickname for something, but I just don't know what!

I REALLY like Gwyneth, but I pronounce it with more of an 'i' sound, not 'e' for Gwen.
I also like Guinevere, but not spelt Gwenevere.

So technically neither of these could be used as a full name for Gwen, y/n?
What other names are there? Do you like Gwen?

For a boy and a girl, put together the longest possible names that you think "flow" or work together - think along the lines of royal family names, ex. Victoria Mary Augusta Louise Olga Pauline Claudine Agnes. The trick is, they all have to come off your lists of names you like.

Let the games begin!

I was watching the end credits of "When Harry Met Sally...." (best movie EVAR!)and when they listed the names of the actors who played the little old couples throughout the movie, I almost died when I saw one name.

Peter Pan.

I'm still chuckling....

I just found this: http://www.ssa.gov/OACT/babynames/twins.html
List of the most popular twin names in 2007.

I was surprised just how many of them were matchy. I mean I know people use matchy twin names but I didn't think it happened to this extent.

But maybe it's just because if they're not matchy, they're less likely to occur often enough to make a list like this.

in your opinion, what are the best sibsets you've encountered in real life?

my favorites are:
- anna & tess
- amy lauren, timothy ryan, alexander corey & caroline elyse - i'm not too fond of amy, lauren, or corey, but i think in general the first names all flow well together.

Here are the names of my friends and (if they have any) siblings. Middle names are included when known. They're listed in order from oldest to youngest:

It wasn't until Pearl Harbor (the movie) that I realized the name Rafe I'd been reading in romance novels was pronounced "Rayf" and not "Raf-ee".

What have you been pronouncing wrong forever? :P
