[identity profile] omfg----hxc.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames

The aunt of the little girl I babysit for has been thinking of boy's names.

The only one I've heard is Diego. I kind of like it, but there's Go, Diego, Go! and I wouldn't name my kid that because of that connotation. And she's thinking the same thing...

I love the name Diego. Maybe that show will dwindle in popularity by the time she has a boy?

I don't think it's so much the popularity, it's just the connotations with Dora the Explorer.

Oh man, as the mom of a seven year old boy, I can tell you Diego isn't going anywhere anytime soon. He only keeps getting more and more popular. *looks wearily at Diego pillow, Animal Rescue center, and talking Diego doll a few feet away* and sadly, that's just the living room. His room upstairs looks like Nick Jr. threw up in there.

I actually like Diego, despite the connotations.

Is she looking specifically for a Spanish name? I like Marco, Carlos, Miguel, Hugo, and Teo (either on its own or short for Teodoro).

Diego wouldn't be too bad. But naming a girl Dora would be cruel.

yeah. the first thing i thought about was the cartoon. =/ but i do like it as a name. i just feel like it might be kind of hard to grow up with right now. it's like naming your daughter dora or miley.

I don't think I'd use Diego either. It doesn't make me think of "Go, Diego, Go!" (is that show really that popular? I've only seen it a few times flipping through channels. Isn't "Blues Clues" the big one or am I just way too out of touch?) but it does make me think of San Diego. Lovely city but I'd feel weird naming a kid after any of the (San) cities, Francisco, Cruz, Barbara, etc.... But then I'm a Californian at heart so I automatically think of those names as cities instead of legitimate names.
