What do you think of the name Calvin?

Do you think it sounds better with the middle names of Peter, William, or Timothy?

Beatrix

The WHY: I grew up obsessed with Beatrix Potter who wrote Peter Rabbit ( although my favorites were always Benjamin Bunny, Miss Tiggy-Winkle and Squirrel Nutkin) and of course I love JK Rowling and Bellatrix, but I think Beatrix is more namey.

I also like all the nicknames I can think of:

Bea, Bettie, Trixie

Also I was wondering if these were too negative associations to have with a name for a future kid. (Beatrix potter I've always heard hated children, and the character Bellatrix is a death eater convict who enjoyed torturing people)

I was just wondering WDYT and why, I've noticed that a few people don't like it at all.

Still I love it.

I came across what is probably one of the most atrocious "creative" spellings of a name I've ever seen:

KHOLLYN [Collin].

This was on a little girl!

Other strange ones I encountered just yesterday:

Thorne
Kayson
Brylon

All boys less than a year old.

I was bored the other day and made a list of some of my favorite "ethnic" names; I only had time to look at French, Irish, Italian, Russian, and Spanish names. For some reason or another, I tend to prefer ethnic names for girls, though I suppose the trend always has been to be "safer" when naming boys. Anyway, here they are; I'd love to hear feedback and your own favorite "ethnic" names.

I'll start with the good:

I came up with the name Salem Ellis this weekend, and it kind of hit me like a ton of bricks. I think I really like it a lot. I could go with a different middle name, but Ellis is my great-uncle's name, and I like it a lot. So suggestions/criticism/praise is welcome. And, yeah, I was watching "Sabrina the Teenage Witch" this weekend, haha. I asked my husband what he thought of Salem, and he asked what the middle name could be. I told him "Salem Saberhagen, of course!". He shot that down, haha.

Now on to the bad. I'll put this behind a cut, since it's just sort of mean:

RIP Antoine  )

A lady at work, Delores, has a new baby granddaughter, Ava Noelle, Her mother's middle name is Noelle.
WDYT?
Personally, Ava is my favorite girl's name and I'm planning on most likely using it in the future. No matter how popular it's getting, I think it's so elegant and feminine.

This will kill some time. Sorry for posting so close together, it's a really boring day off of work and I'm taking a break from studying for my huge biology exam.

I've seen quite a few of you in [livejournal.com profile] ljsecret, so some of you have already read this, but I thought it was interesting. Someone posted a secret here that read, "I use a pseudonym whenever I order at Starbucks because nobody can pronounce my damn name."

I was disappointed that there weren't more responses...well, there were, but most of them were, "I have that same problem," without mentioning what their names were...but a few people had testimonials: )

Anyway. Yep. Just thought it was interesting.

Standard (unfortunately) Bi-monthly wrist slapping -

Don't post here if you can't handle negative AND positive opinions. It's basic. Also, being pregnant and having other issues in your life doesn't entitle you to be a snot on the internet, just FYI. If you're that delicate at any point, the internet in general is not the place for you. Don't post whiney flounce posts, it doesn't accomplish what you think. Unless you had actually planned on making yourself look like an idiot today.

Also, I'm VERY miffed at the amount of replies to that post in contrast to the amount of e-mails I received on the subject (zero). Please, shoot me an e-mail instead of getting in on the good ole drama so I can delete it. If you have time to stir the drama-pot and quote community rules, you've got time to read the one about e-mailing me with issues and shooting me a quick one. I'd appreciate the effort.
