I'll start with the good:

I came up with the name Salem Ellis this weekend, and it kind of hit me like a ton of bricks. I think I really like it a lot. I could go with a different middle name, but Ellis is my great-uncle's name, and I like it a lot. So suggestions/criticism/praise is welcome. And, yeah, I was watching "Sabrina the Teenage Witch" this weekend, haha. I asked my husband what he thought of Salem, and he asked what the middle name could be. I told him "Salem Saberhagen, of course!". He shot that down, haha.

Now on to the bad. I'll put this behind a cut, since it's just sort of mean:

My father in law likes to clip out "funny" obituaries and save them for when my husband and I come to visit. Usually it's someone with an amazing nickname in quotes or something. In this case, it was the man's living relative list:

"He leaves to cherish his memory his children, Antione Lamont, Andre, Adrian, Aliayah, Antoine Loreal, Ariana, Anton, Arian, A'Marion, Antonio, Antoine Lemar Jr., Prince, Princess, Denarius and DaSean...."

That's either some incredibly lazy naming or some very creative naming.

haha! I read the obits for names, too! Those are some...intersting...name choices! lol I guess whoever used Prince, Princess, Denarius and DaSean is the family rebel. heh

Salem is a bit different. I guess it depends on your social circle. If the people you are close to are accepting of it, then I don't think it would be as much of a burden. However, if everyone (family, friends, random folks) tends to flinch at the suggestion, you might want to reconsider. On the plus side, it is easy to pronounce and spell. Most people are familiar with Salem, the place, if not the cat. ;)

I love Salem. And it goes so well with Ellis. If he ever finds that Salem doesn't work for him he could always go with Ellis.

Salem's pretty cool, but I'd always think his parents lived in MA or were fans of the witch trials XD

True, and you could definitely pick a much worse name too, hehehe. I'd say go for it, esp if you live down south (which i think you commented below). I would think most people would think of it, but it wouldn't be as powerful as up in New England (where I am).

I think Salem is not the best choice for a first name - for many it will call to mind burning witches. I like Ellis though.

Wow, that is a very badly named family!

I think of the Salem witch hunt which isn't so good.

Salem Ellis sounds good together though.

Food for thought from my list:
Silas, Cyrus & Sirius (though you have the obvious HP reference there) Callum, Colm, & Cassuis.

Yeah, it's pretty blatent where the name came from.
Do you think Hermione is in the same boat too?

I know a guy called Silas, he pulls it off well.. I think it gives you ultimate cool!

I work at a newspaper, so I see those horrific things firsthand. I think I've even posted a few of them here.

My favorite obit name EVER, though, was the 100-year-old woman named Margherita Martini.
