Something bad, something (maybe) good
Feb. 18th, 2008 01:52 pmI'll start with the good:
I came up with the name Salem Ellis this weekend, and it kind of hit me like a ton of bricks. I think I really like it a lot. I could go with a different middle name, but Ellis is my great-uncle's name, and I like it a lot. So suggestions/criticism/praise is welcome. And, yeah, I was watching "Sabrina the Teenage Witch" this weekend, haha. I asked my husband what he thought of Salem, and he asked what the middle name could be. I told him "Salem Saberhagen, of course!". He shot that down, haha.
Now on to the bad. I'll put this behind a cut, since it's just sort of mean:
My father in law likes to clip out "funny" obituaries and save them for when my husband and I come to visit. Usually it's someone with an amazing nickname in quotes or something. In this case, it was the man's living relative list:
"He leaves to cherish his memory his children, Antione Lamont, Andre, Adrian, Aliayah, Antoine Loreal, Ariana, Anton, Arian, A'Marion, Antonio, Antoine Lemar Jr., Prince, Princess, Denarius and DaSean...."
That's either some incredibly lazy naming or some very creative naming.

Date: 2008-02-18 07:23 pm (UTC)Salem is a bit different. I guess it depends on your social circle. If the people you are close to are accepting of it, then I don't think it would be as much of a burden. However, if everyone (family, friends, random folks) tends to flinch at the suggestion, you might want to reconsider. On the plus side, it is easy to pronounce and spell. Most people are familiar with Salem, the place, if not the cat. ;)

Date: 2008-02-18 07:28 pm (UTC)And I haven't mentioned the name Salem to my mom, yet, but she's usually a pretty good measure of whether the name is ridiculous or not. If she laughs, it's safe to say that most of my family would laugh at it, too. The only thing is that she had a cat named Salem before I was born. So that could make her love it or hate it, depending on how she looks at it.

Date: 2008-02-18 09:08 pm (UTC)I think of the Salem witch hunt which isn't so good.
Salem Ellis sounds good together though.
Food for thought from my list:
Silas, Cyrus & Sirius (though you have the obvious HP reference there) Callum, Colm, & Cassuis.
