I met someone named "Shane" but it was pronounced "Shawn" or "Sean"...however you prefer. He's my ex's brother, and his mom is a little....out there.

WDYT? Have you ever encountered this before?

No, Shane is an Anglicized version of Sean, which is the Irish Gaelic form of John.

heres what I found

The boy's and girl's name Shane \sh(a)-ne\ is pronounced shayn. Variant of Sean (Irish), from John (Hebrew) "the Lord is gracious".

It's a variant, yes, not the original "Irish version." Rather, it's Sean being bastardized by English speakers.

that's too confusing for me lol. i guess because i know a few Shane/Shaynes, and Sean/Shawns, so i think of them as two different names.

what is your ex's name?

James Colbert is nice, and to go by Cole is a nice alternate to James/Jim/Jimmy/Jimbo lol.
