Beatrix

The WHY: I grew up obsessed with Beatrix Potter who wrote Peter Rabbit ( although my favorites were always Benjamin Bunny, Miss Tiggy-Winkle and Squirrel Nutkin) and of course I love JK Rowling and Bellatrix, but I think Beatrix is more namey.

I also like all the nicknames I can think of:

Bea, Bettie, Trixie

Also I was wondering if these were too negative associations to have with a name for a future kid. (Beatrix potter I've always heard hated children, and the character Bellatrix is a death eater convict who enjoyed torturing people)

I was just wondering WDYT and why, I've noticed that a few people don't like it at all.

Still I love it.

I asked about this name a while ago in this community, and frankly, I love it. I think it's more interesting than Beatrice, while not being out too out there. Unfortunatley, I don't like any of the nicknames for it. :(

I associate Beatrix more with Beatrix Kiddo and less with Bellatrix from Harry Potter and Beatrix Potter (because I never read her books).

I agree. Beatrix Kiddo was the first thing that came to my mind.

I think Bea & Trixie are cute nicknames =)

Bellatrix sounds like some sort of dominatrix name.

I like Beatrix a lot, though.

I'm one of those people who don't like it at all ;)

Our Queen (of The Netherlands) is called Beatrix, and it's such an uncommon name that I can only think of her whenever I hear the name, and I can't see it on anyone else (especially not on younger people).

That said, I'm not a fan of names that end in -ix, but that's a matter of personal taste.

If I'm pregnant with a girl right now, that's what her name will be. We haven't totally decided if we are going to name her Beatrix or jut cut straight to Trixie, since that is actually what we plan on calling her. But I guess it would be nice for her to have the option in the future.

I don't know if this is a nationwide chain or anything, but there is a stripclub here called Trixie's. Therefore, I get a lot of feedback that Trixie is just a stripper name. I, however, strongly disagree with that.

I like Beatrix and Bellatrix, but not enough to use it as my kid's name. I brought up Bellatrix to my Mom and she called it a hooker name.

I started coming up with the worst horrible names I could find so that when I finally did decide on a name she wouldn't think it was so bad.

I have always loved the name Beatrice from the Ramona books by Beverly Cleary (HUGE fav of mine as a kid and now). She was Ramona's older sister.

I was obsessed with Beatrix Potter books! (My favorites were Jemima Puddle Duck and Two Bad Mice)

I like the name because of the nickname Trixie.

I like Beatrice for the softer sound on the end as compared to Beatrix, but I do like them both.

I plan to take Beatrix as my Confirmation name. =) =) =) It's one of my top five names.

I looove girl names with "x"s in them--Roxanne is another of my top five. Anyway, I just love the sound of Beatrix (Beatrice is nice but doesn't do the same thing for me) and I love the nicknames Trix, Trixie, Bea, Bebe, etc.

The name can also be associated with some favorite characters of mine...
Bellatrix (which I think is GORGEOUS but would probably use on a pet rather than suggest for a kid--it's also a combination of two other favorite characters/names. Beatrix (Kiddo) + Elle (Driver) = Bellatrix! ;3 I'm an HP/Kill Bill fan.)
Beatrix Kiddo
And author Beatrix Potter, whose little books I love and it doesn't matter to me whether she liked children or not. xD They might be negative associations for other people, but not for me. Hmm..we have all those books at the library I work in. I may try to read them on break sometime...haha.

It's a very uncommon name, which I like. It starts with a B, which is my favorite letter of the alphabet (even though I actually have quite a few fave names that begin with I...but still!) For me, it's pretty perfect. :D
