[identity profile] ouronlylight.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
I was bored the other day and made a list of some of my favorite "ethnic" names; I only had time to look at French, Irish, Italian, Russian, and Spanish names. For some reason or another, I tend to prefer ethnic names for girls, though I suppose the trend always has been to be "safer" when naming boys. Anyway, here they are; I'd love to hear feedback and your own favorite "ethnic" names.

just one tiny, itsy correction: it's Caterina in Italian, not Catarina :)

and Carina is the word for pretty (referred to a girl) but not used as a name.

Of your list, I like:
Camille
Lea
Aisling
Connor
Maria
Lena
Diana
Elena
Lola
Lourdes
Lucía
Mercedes (love love this one!)

Actually, I think most names on that list are alright, but those are the ones I either really like/love or are on my list as well.

Some others I like myself (all girl names):
Maeve
Roisin
Rhoslyn

Rocio
Belén (Bell-LAYN)

Solenne

And tons of others, but it's hard to decide what's ethnic and what not these days ;) (Astrid, for example, is one of my favourites. It's originally Scandinavian, but it's quite common here, too).
