I've been incessently bothering my husband about figuring out a boy's name before our ultrasound. He thinks he likes Jayden Paul (which uses my father's middle name), and I like it.

It's not my first choice, but what do y'all think?

Jayden is sooo trendy.
Come on, originality! There are going to be a million little [inset own first leter and spelling]-aiden's running around the same age as your son.

I think Jayden is my least favorite name in the world.

It is super trendy at the moment. I still like it but I would spell it Jaden for a boy.

My opinion: Jayden is a cute name...for a girl.
If you're set on naming him Jayden, spell it Jaden.

Though...
why Jayden? Why do you like it better than Hayden/Caden/Aiden/Brayden?
I'm just curious, not trying to offend. All four of those names go nicely with Paul.

Besides the fact that it's super trendy, Jayden [in all its various spellings] has always struck me as a girls name. Especially with a y, it looks more feminine. If you still decide to go with it, I'd drop the y and spell it Jaden.

Like most other people, I think Jayden's way too common (and it always reminds me of this toddler, Jayden Leskie, who was murdered here in Australia, in what remains an extremely high profile case even after 10 years).

I don't know, wouldn't you want something a little more original for your son? Something that wasn't shared by so many other kids of his age?

I really would recommend not using a name that has an -ayden sound. With combined spellings Aiden/Aidan is the single most popular boy name. If you had in all the Jaydens/Haydns/Caidens/Braydens etc there are sure to be a bazillion all with practically the same name. Elementary rolls sheets are going to be RIDICULOUS in about 4-5 years.

I really really like the name..really

I dont kow why they all dont like it..I mean..in the 80s stephanie and co were super trendy...and ??? .. I know a lot f stephanies and they dont care...

its a cute name...
it flows well...its not a crazy spelling or a super kreative name (where you have to ask about 50x how you have to write it)...
and if you like it..I would use it..

Oooh, trust me, having a super-common name is no fun at all. My name was the second most popular for the year I was born -- I was surrounded by people with my name growing up, and I HATED it. Made me feel so...ordinary. My mom had no idea that the name was so common...too bad she didn't have the Internet there to assist her in her choice!

So I, too, would advise against any -ayden-type name.

It's soooo trendy. :S

I can honestly say probably 80% of the people I can think of offhand who have had a little boy in the past two years have named it Jayden/Jaden, so if you stick with it, except him to be Jayden C. throughout school...

I personally find names like Jayden incredibly tacky... but I guess it's a matter of taste.

Jayden is cute. I find it ridiculous and shallow that it being "trendy" is peoples' main criticism. It's a lot better than naming your kid Sasquatch Shark for the sake of being ~*unique*~

"Trendy" is not necessarily the same as "common". There are names that are tried and true, and so classic that they are kind of immune to the whole "trends" thing -- there may be more Williams in one decade than in another, but there will always be Williams. My name was very common when I was born, and that annoyed me, but it is a simple, ageless sort of name that will probably never sound dated.

Trendy names, on the other hand, tend to have a short shelf-life, and a few years later the kid will be forever stuck with a name that sounds like your parents *tried* to be creative and unusual, but failed. "Madison" was a cute, quirky girl's name once, but now it's everywhere, so the "quirky" factor is gone, and the cute is worn out as well -- now it's just plain annoying. It'll stick around for a few more years and then it will be gone, and the Madisons will have the disadvantage of having the same name as everyone in their class, a name that'll seem silly and tired by the time they grow up. I think that's something to take into consideration when naming a child, and I don't think there's anything ridiculous or shallow about it.

There *are* names that are attractive and unusual, and they aren't necessarily stupid, like your example. It's just a question of finding the right one -- and then hoping that everyone else didn't find the same name at the same time.

I must admit, Jayden/Jaden/Jaiden or any other -ayden name are on my "don't like at all" list. But who cares what other people think? If you guys like it, that's all that matters!

I think it's quite a nice name. I know a boy with that name spelt Jaydn.
It's not popular here where I live at all. Quite unique :D

You asked for everyones opinions. All you want to here is how cute of a name it is and then get mad when people say they don't like it? Then why didn't you just ask for only people who like it to post next time. This is the internet. Anyway, yes Jayden is popular, but at least your not sticking it on a girl. It's a nice name.

I think the difference between the Jayden/Aiden/Braeden/Caden/yaddayadda and the popularity of Jennifer, Katie/Katy, Jessica, Sara[h] of "our age" (typical LJ mother age?) is that the first set... they all rhyme. RHYME.

In the end, it's your name, and you + father of baby will love your baby no matter what, and if you want to snuggle up to baby Jayden, then that's wonderful, and kudos.

This forum probably isn't going to honestly be awarding any brownie points for the name you're discussing, but there are probably more important child-rearing questions to be considering, which I'm sure you are.

I think that the name Jayden is cute, but the "aidan" names are very popular right now, and I know many children with these kinds of names. It is your child and so you should name him what you like, but also take into consideration that there will be many little boys with similar sounding names when he is in school.

I was born in '87 and Lauren was not popular at the time, and I did not know a single other Lauren until I reached high school where I was one of eight Laurens, four Lauras, and a Laurena. I went to small private schools, so I always had an individual name until high school. Then once I got there, I no longer had a first name. My identity was my last name, and most of my teachers called me that.

But I think that you should name your child something you like, but then also consider the 'trendy name' fad that is going on right now.
