Think we got one!
May. 16th, 2007 07:58 pmI've been incessently bothering my husband about figuring out a boy's name before our ultrasound. He thinks he likes Jayden Paul (which uses my father's middle name), and I like it.
It's not my first choice, but what do y'all think?

Date: 2007-05-17 04:42 am (UTC)Funny----I didn't know it was this popular. I met one little boy named Jaden, and I loved it, but that was last year, and he was 3.

Date: 2007-05-17 12:58 am (UTC)If you're set on naming him Jayden, spell it Jaden.
Though...
why Jayden? Why do you like it better than Hayden/Caden/Aiden/Brayden?
I'm just curious, not trying to offend. All four of those names go nicely with Paul.

Date: 2007-05-17 04:38 am (UTC)Hubby hasn't been conducive to ANY names I've offered up. He finally got online to do something & asked if I liked Jayden. I said yes, but I thought he wouldn't go for it. He asked how I'd spell it, and I said Jaden. He said that the site he was on didn't list that as an *acceptable spelling*. I've only ever seen it as Jaden (boy) or Jaiden (girl).
I wanted Gavin or Tristan. He vetoed both of them. Well, he's got some bad taste in names.

Hey, I'm the only signature that they accept on his birth certificate, right???

Date: 2007-05-17 01:37 am (UTC)I don't know, wouldn't you want something a little more original for your son? Something that wasn't shared by so many other kids of his age?

Date: 2007-05-17 08:45 am (UTC)I dont kow why they all dont like it..I mean..in the 80s stephanie and co were super trendy...and ??? .. I know a lot f stephanies and they dont care...
its a cute name...
it flows well...its not a crazy spelling or a super kreative name (where you have to ask about 50x how you have to write it)...
and if you like it..I would use it..

Date: 2007-05-17 12:22 pm (UTC)I can honestly say probably 80% of the people I can think of offhand who have had a little boy in the past two years have named it Jayden/Jaden, so if you stick with it, except him to be Jayden C. throughout school...

Date: 2007-05-17 09:30 pm (UTC)Trendy names, on the other hand, tend to have a short shelf-life, and a few years later the kid will be forever stuck with a name that sounds like your parents *tried* to be creative and unusual, but failed. "Madison" was a cute, quirky girl's name once, but now it's everywhere, so the "quirky" factor is gone, and the cute is worn out as well -- now it's just plain annoying. It'll stick around for a few more years and then it will be gone, and the Madisons will have the disadvantage of having the same name as everyone in their class, a name that'll seem silly and tired by the time they grow up. I think that's something to take into consideration when naming a child, and I don't think there's anything ridiculous or shallow about it.
There *are* names that are attractive and unusual, and they aren't necessarily stupid, like your example. It's just a question of finding the right one -- and then hoping that everyone else didn't find the same name at the same time.

Date: 2007-05-20 08:28 pm (UTC)In the end, it's your name, and you + father of baby will love your baby no matter what, and if you want to snuggle up to baby Jayden, then that's wonderful, and kudos.
This forum probably isn't going to honestly be awarding any brownie points for the name you're discussing, but there are probably more important child-rearing questions to be considering, which I'm sure you are.

Date: 2007-05-21 04:50 pm (UTC)this isn't my first choice for a forum for motherhood, that's for sure. i'm on babyfit.com & use their mommyteams for real info. i just thought that i could get a wide-spectrum answer from people who didn't know me (so they wouldn't be biased) in regard to the name.
....and a lot of people who post in this forum aren't of *our age* (though, by your name list, I am!)....they're the *if I get married some day & we have a baby, I'd name it....* Yeah. It gets weird when you're getting criticism from 17-year olds. >:(

Date: 2007-05-20 08:58 pm (UTC)I was born in '87 and Lauren was not popular at the time, and I did not know a single other Lauren until I reached high school where I was one of eight Laurens, four Lauras, and a Laurena. I went to small private schools, so I always had an individual name until high school. Then once I got there, I no longer had a first name. My identity was my last name, and most of my teachers called me that.
But I think that you should name your child something you like, but then also consider the 'trendy name' fad that is going on right now.

Date: 2007-05-21 04:46 pm (UTC)Funny, but a modified Lauren is our girl's middle name choice :) It's spelled differently, but we're using it!
