I've been incessently bothering my husband about figuring out a boy's name before our ultrasound. He thinks he likes Jayden Paul (which uses my father's middle name), and I like it.

It's not my first choice, but what do y'all think?

a) You asked what we thought. I think the name is tacky. It's my honest opinion. I don't think I expressed it in a particularly mean way, but if I hurt your feelings, I'm sorry, because it wasn't my intent. If you didn't want honest opinions, you probably shouldn't have asked what people thought.

b) Was it really necessary to reply to my comment twice, saying two different things...?

It's not that I didn't expect negative opinions; I just thought people were a little more...mature.

This community is full of *the top 100 names I want for a baby if I ever make it out of high school*, and I thought that I'd get answers from people who would be a little above that.

I, also, find that it's much easier to be rude in a post than if you knew me & I asked you to your face. If your best friend asked you about using Jaden, would you tell her it was *tacky*???

Yes, I would. I assumed that you wanted honest answers. From now on I'll watch what I say, I guess, because clearly some people are too sensitive to deal with a name they like being called tacky. :P

I think saying "I think the name is tacky" is quite tactful and a hell of a lot better than something like "God that name really sucks, you're incredibly unoriginal. And stop making yourself look uneducated by trying to pass it off as Hebrew".

Jadon: Hebrew, meaning 'grateful'. Maybe you should do a little research before you call someone uneducated.

Personally, I find that telling someone that it's the worst name you ever heard or that it's tacky is just tasteless. Maybe where you're from, it's a little nicer of a term.

Why should it matter if I want to pick a name for my child that's more common that *Apple*??? Why should I have to add stupid extra *y*s or *h*s??? Originality is part of who a person is----part of his/her personality. Someone named John could be more original than someone named Dakotah. I didn't know that the name has been used to much in the past couple of years, and I was glad to get that info from people----but that's all it was. Info. It wasn't designed to be rude.

I thought I could post here & not get biased answers. And, how I'm *treated*, as you said, here doesn't matter to me. A bunch of strangers online don't bug me. I just don't like it when people are rude.

Jayden may be inspired by Jadon but they're far from the same name. They aren't even pronounced the same. If you want to give your kid a Hebrew name, give him the Hebrew name of Jadon. Jayden is just some misspelled, mispronounced knockoff.

Or to use your own example - Jayden is the Dahkotah of Jadon.

I know what Jadon means. I think you're missing the point. Jadon != Jayden.
