Being baby name fans, we all know about the super-sized Duggars and their love of J names. On their show, they sometimes feature another extra large family called the Bates. They have 18 children.

The Bates family )

At least they have a variety of names (even if some of them are weird). WDYT?

Newby here.

Saw this community and I had to join, so I signed up to LJ haha. I post on Ficpress and Fanfic, or I want to, so I'm constantly on the lookout for new names to suit each character I create, so it's pretty cool that I found this. And anyway, I've thought about what my baby/s were going to be named since I had my first ever cabbage patch kid :D ... Here are just a few of the names I really like:
Chaylah, Tatiana, Christobelle, Orian, Link/c, Julian, Jayden, Zander, Karina, River, Carmel, Aurora, Denzel [LOVE DENZEL AS A NAME], Hunter, Donovon, Crystal, Asher, Nelson, Landon, Keira, Pascal.

Boys and Girls. Kaythanks :)

Like so many others, I'm new here thanks to the com being spotlighted. I've been looking through baby name books since I was a teenager and making lists soon after. Part of my fascination comes from being a writer, while another is playing role-playing games (I miss my old gaming group!). The main reason is I really want to be a mother, and so I have two top-five lists, one for girls and one for boys. It changes with time, but currently stands as such:

Girls

Phoenix Cynthia
Neva Lorraine
Eden Genevieve
Wren Meredith
Sabrina Elizabeth

Boys

Phineas James
Grayson Jeffrey
Colin Jonathon
Beckett Christopher
Elliott Dennis

So what do you think?

I am completely and utterly in love with the name of Jayne (pronounced like "Jane") for a boy. I heard the name on "Firefly" and fell immediately in love with it. Hubby isn't totally against it, but he's not totally for it either; he's worried that our future son would be picked on.

Thoughts?

Hello everyone! I recently had a baby girl in August, we decided to name her Milo, her full name is Milo Adrienne Kennedy. I get a lot of mixed reactions when I tell people what her name is. Some people love it, others think it's weird..or a boys name or a cats name. Someone even told me that it was a bad choice for when she gets older. I obviously love the name, and it suits my husband & I's personalities. Just wondering if anyone here has chosen a "different" name for thier child, and how people have reacted.

I have fallen in love with a new name. MAGNOLIA.
I love it. I don't know why but I heard it on a tv show and if I ever have another daughter I would use it. There are a lot of possible nicknames. I have a three year old daughter named Molly so I think the "M" trend fits.
The only problem is that I can't find a middle name I like. Any suggestions?

Some girl names we like:

Holly

In my family there is a tradition going 3 gen back on the girls of having a formal first name with a 3 letter middle name. Now that I've met the man I plan to have children with (someday) I'm racking my brain trying to come up with some 3 letter names that aren't already in use in our family. Also the future father is a (future) English professor who is very picky (no unisex names, no 2-name names; Peggy Sue, Bobbi Joe, etc). He really likes literary & classic names like Persephone, but he already has a cat named that and I told him no way was a child of mine being named after a family pet, living or not.

Basically I need a list I can go back to when he nixes all my likes.

So far I have...

(Amelia) Day/Dey (a combo of our moms names Deb/Kay)
(Penelope) Joy
(Gemma) Lux
(Everly) Kai
(Beatrix) Ann (not crazy about Ann-no e but it's all over both sides)

And the no's would be... Kay, Jan, Zoe, Lyn, Rae, Lee

Thanks for the help.

Okay, so I recently fell in love with a name that my husband suggested. He actually came up with it in his sleep and shook me awake to tell me. Only thing is, after a bit of research I've found out that the name actually means prostitute. But I ADORE the name, it's just special. If you know what I mean?

The name is Jezebel. (Jez-e-bell) I had never even heard of it before. And until my research on the internet I was going to use it for my child. But now, if it means something awful like that, I'm a little nervous that my child might be teased.

What's everyones opinions when it comes to name meanings? Do they matter? Should I care what it means?

Let me know what you peeps think :)

I'm getting married pretty soon. Babies are sure to come. My fiance and I have had a little bit of disagreements on names when we've brought it up. But since I've been mauling names over in my head for years now I'm at the stand point where some names are going to be used - to hell with what he thinks.

For example: The name Ann has been passed down as a middle name in my family for some time now. Both my mom and my grandmother have it and have insisted I use it as I have it too. I don't particularly like Anne or Ann but I do like Anabel/Annabell. So I want to use that. My fiance scoffed at me and basically called me an idiot when I brought it up. Which was really upsetting...to be quite honest.

I'll put it behind a cut here:

A friend pointed me to this place a few days ago, I've been checking out a few posts since then but haven't yet had the guts to post, so here it comes... I have a large family, 10 kids with somewhat obsure names to most of them and a somewhat obsure switching habit to perfectly normal and perhaps a little oldfashion naming. My husband has often occused me of prefering to name my children from tv shows, but thankfully so far hasn't been able to prove it - thank god he doesn't watch all the same shows as me :)

Anyway, I saw an article yesterday can't remember where it was, I think the same friend who pointed me to this comm pointed me to the article, but the couple were expecting their 20th child... I stared at the picture of this couple and wondered just how she managed to stay so slim, because I've totally failed. Anyway, their names were normal and mine far from and I don't even know why it came to mind, but here is a list of my beauties names for you to whisper about behind my hubbys back :) (he doesnt use LJ so you're perfectly safe)

Twins girls: Teryl Narumi & Nalla Isoka
A boy: Elijah Demeter
Twin girls: Sikozu Kyda & Janet Odella
Mixed twins: Loki Kvasir & Larka Emily
A girl: Ariana Eliza
Mixed twins: Olivia Mathilda & Jackson Alexander

I'll stop babbling now :)
enjoy!

Anyone want to play a game? I know we've done this before in here, but now there are a lot more new people, so I thought it might be fun again.

You get to create your own Duggar family! You can do this one of two ways. Use the same gender order both times.
1. Pick one letter and use it for each first name.
2. Use your favorite name combos.

Post to the comments.

so i am currently single and thus not close to having kids but i do have names picked out. personally i like to stay away from the idea of sharing the same middle name with my child (me and my mum have the same middle name and i rather dislike it). my name is Nicole Josette which means victory of the people and God adds unto or subtracts. i have many names that are rather old fashioned in style because i like the fact you don't see them often now.

my list thus far:

Girls names
Ae sook meaning  love and purity in Korean (if i got the translation right)
Amity june (amity means friendship)
Melba rose ( thin skinned (not the most suited name but i love it because i have a great aunt with that name)
Opal li (precious gem)
Jasmine Marie
Iris Sophia
Violet Mae
Lily Anastasia
Elizabeth ivy
Dahlia Ariana
Olivia Danielle
Poppy Joanna
Cadence Alice (rhythm)
Aveline Zaynah (hazel lovely one)

Boys names
Micah Amos
David Elijah
Isaac Samuel

those are all i have right now but i love looking for interesting names with good meanings

My name is Nicola Sarah, and my boyfriends name is Michael.
When we get married I plan to take my maiden name as a middle name.

For future kids, the names we have discussed are Hannah Abigail for a girl, and Scott James for a boy.
(James is a family name- all men in my family have it somewhere in their name! And my mum is Gail so Abigail is for her)
We've talked about what happens if we have multiple girls/boys.. and we like Michael William for a 2nd boy (William is his dads name), but cannot come up with another girls name!
I love Scarlett Alexis for a girl but he really doesnt!

Any thoughts?

Hey all, I'm sure many of you must be tired of spotlight-ers by now, but I've been looking for a site like this for a while. I add to my name list every time I hear something I like, and I thing this forum for feedback is really cool. Anyway, I don't have any kids, and I'm not planning to any time soon, but I do love names. I'd love to know what my fellow enthusiasts think of my top picks. Here are my top five, in order, for each sex.

Girls-
Lenore Amelia (Do you like Lenore or Lenora better?)
Corine Johanna
Bridie June (Typically a nn for Brighid)
Lucy Susan (Susan for my mom.)
Sadie Gray

Boys-
Emerson James
Milo Roy (Roy for my brother)
Grey Aaron (Grey or Gray?)
Daniel Jon
August Edward (nn Augie)

Thanks to all you lovely people!
