Possible Names?
Nov. 9th, 2011 04:54 pmI'm getting married pretty soon. Babies are sure to come. My fiance and I have had a little bit of disagreements on names when we've brought it up. But since I've been mauling names over in my head for years now I'm at the stand point where some names are going to be used - to hell with what he thinks.
For example: The name Ann has been passed down as a middle name in my family for some time now. Both my mom and my grandmother have it and have insisted I use it as I have it too. I don't particularly like Anne or Ann but I do like Anabel/Annabell. So I want to use that. My fiance scoffed at me and basically called me an idiot when I brought it up. Which was really upsetting...to be quite honest.
I'll put it behind a cut here:
But here are some names:
Girls:
Meadow Anabel
Meredith Nicole or Nicolette
Kordelia (Cordelia) Marie
I'd also love to use the name Pandora. I absolutely love it. And have for a very long time. I used to have a doll when I was 2 or 3 named Pandora. I must have picked it up from some Greek Mythology I was read as a child. My mom thinks I'm trying to give my child a horrible name...with negative meanings...but Pandora doesn't mean or symbolize evil. It symbolizes more a curiosity.
Boys
Dorian Elwood
Gray or Grayson Harris
Damien Patrick
My boyfriend basically thinks I'm crazy and doesn't understand why I don't want to call our kids Joe and Sue..and simple 3 letter names like that. I mean really? I feel like if I named my kid Joe my kid would hate it and I would hate it. Especially if my kid is anything like me.

Date: 2011-11-09 05:00 pm (UTC)I told my boyfriend if we have another kid and it's a girl she will be Annabel, he told me it sounded like a cow's name :(

Date: 2011-11-09 05:10 pm (UTC)I think my boyfriend said that too. I actually knew someone who had a cow named his name. So I told him that his name was a cow's name for real. Also it isn't like you want to call the kid Bessy or Bertha. Annabell doesn't have the same feeling as those names.

Date: 2011-11-09 05:16 pm (UTC)Never spell the name Cordelia with a K. It's perfect the way it is.
Dora would be cute as a nickname for Pandora.
I have a niece Annabelle and she told me she doesn't like her name cause its too long to spell (she's 6).
I went to high school with an Anna-Lynn and an Annabeth and college with an Annah. Ah the South.:)

Date: 2011-11-09 06:23 pm (UTC)My middle name is Sue. Not Susan, not Suzie, Just Sue. It's awful. People cannot understand not having a full name and having the nickname of Sue. They think it's weird, and I really hate it. It makes me feel like it was a thoughtless name. My two older siblings both have full middle names "Edward" and "Lynn" (Which could be Lynnette but as a middle name it's perfect). My reply is simply that its 'stupid' to name your kid something simple and 3 letters if it's a shortened version of a full name.
People who grow up with unique names either love them or hate them. I woman I work with is named Senda, it's a name she's only seen in her family. She loves it but doesn't like that there's no 'meaning' behind it.

Date: 2011-11-09 07:27 pm (UTC)I want to give my children creative/unique names but not way out there sorts. So that when they get older they can think "Wow, my mom was really smart, she gave me a name that helped me stand out a bit."
It isn't just 3 letter names my fiance's name ideas are ultra common. And probably will still be go to names in another few years when we're having kids. I just refuse to give my kid a moniker that it is likely 10 or 20 of his classmates will have.
My mom named me Megan. Almost every girl in my class all through grade school was a Megan or an Ashley. Whenever someone said Megan and I turned around and it wasn't me people would laugh at me. And if I forgot to put my initial on a paper it would get thrown away and I would receive and F.
It was torturous for me to be one of many. I don't want my kids to have to go through the same.
