i met this sweet old man and his two grandchildren today.

their names are:

itai (pronounced ee-tye, boy, age 4)
lael (pronounced almost just like lyle, more like ly-elle, girl, age 6)

they were beautiful little kids and the grandfather and i got talking about names. it was pretty funny. when i asked him where they got the names from, he told me those names were hebrew but that his daughter and son-in-law "just liked them" even though my guess was that he was jewish.

i am surprised that i kind of like them. what are your thoughts?

Would it be the same?

Also, WDYT of the names? Which one do you prefer and what type of girl/woman do they make you think of?

I heard this name this week for the first time. Apparently it's a name that has only recently creeped into the top 1000 charts. I like it a lot. It sounds a lot like Myra and Mia.

Hello all! I've been lurking around here for a few weeks now, and thought I'd throw a question out there, based on another post I just read. Seeing how mixed the reaction is to baby name meanings, I was wondering what your favorite baby names MEANT?

For us, Valen and Virgyl are our favorite boy names, and they both mean Strong, based on the same Latin root.

Zoe means Life, Kaida means "little dragon", and Vega means Meadow. (Meadow is kinda lame as far as meanings go, but I have become completely obsessed with it for the last few days now.)

Whaddaya think?

Thoughts

A client of mine came in with her gorgeous blonde, blue-eyed 5 year old daughter named DaVinci. They call her Vinch. The woman was an art major. I was so pleasantly stunned. Thoughts?

Then, my physical therapist has a son named Ryker. Of course I asked and she said her husband was a trekkie (so should be spelled Riker). Thoughts?

Also, I'm a big fan of Mark Twain and have always loved the named Sawyer for a boy. WDYT?

Apologies to people who might be offended but I really mean no harm, this hate only goes name-deep.

I was wondering if there are any redeeming qualities to the name Barbara but I couldn't come up with any. It's close to barbaric, barbarism, the french word 'barbarie' etc. and it doesn't even lend itself to nice nicknames. Barb reminds me of barbed wire, for example. Ouch. It doesn't sound nice (in my opinion) and sounds even worse with an American/Canadian accent when you pronounce the 'r'. Okay, so those last points were pretty subjective but you get the idea about the connotations.

Can anyone convince me?
