Does anyonw have the book "Beyond Jennifer and Jason, Madison & Montana"? I can't seem to find mine and i know that there's a section in there called 'The one syllable solution' and I'm looking for a one Syllable middle name to go with Joshua. Any ideas?

I feel like a lot of the names i like are too trendy or becoming too trendy. I was wondering if you guys could think of any names that have a similar "feel" as some of the ones on my list... for example, I adore the names Julian and Adrian which I think are rather similar, then someone asked about Dorian and I loved that as well. Anyway, on with some of the names :)

Arielle - well, I don't find this to be too common, but the LM association is rather strong for me, no matter what the spelling
Audrey
Avery - I love this even though it's traditionally a boys name... but knowing its a boys name WOULD keep me from using it, so I need alternatives!
Emily
Kelly
Kiara
Lauren
Libby - I would never use this as a fullname, only a nn, any names other than Elisabeth you think would work as a fn?
Lila
Lucy (Lux)
Madeleine
Marissa

Adrian
Caleb
Julian
Lucas
Marcus
Nicholas

Thanks for any suggestions :) I just feel like my taste is so COMMON and I want to know if I'm missing out on any great names! I'm sure I am!

We were continuing to search through baby girl names and I came across the name Malia.

"How do you like this name" - myself
"Isn't that a disease?" - Kevin
"Malaria?" - myself
"Same thing..." - Kevin
"No, Malia is a name. Malaria is a disease that kills about 1-3 million people annually" - myself

Oh boy. Thank God we are only one third of the way through the pregnancy. I wasn't in love with that name anyway. I just dont think I have ever heard it before.

The first name my husband has offered up is Anastasia. I love "Ana" and "Stacey" as nicknames, but I am unsure of the full name.

Years ago I used to frequent a name site where you could enter the number of letters in a name in the search engine. It had a lot of other freatures such as syallable count, origin, etc. For the life of me I can't remember the address. By any chances does anyone here know it? Or suggustion for any other good naming sites? I use and love www.behindthename.cm but it really doesn't have a search engine field like the one I am interested in using.

And for a few names right off the top of my head, since this is a naming board!

Cat Names

So, talking to my boyfriend about baby names either freaks him out, or he gets all silly and suggests things like Rizla, OR he just takes the piss out of the names I like!

But, talking about cat names is fine.

He has a tradition in his family of giving their pets really human names. For example they had cats called John and Donald. A hamster called Dierdre. And their budgie is Colin.

So, to distract myself from obsessing over baby names I have been trying to come up with some very human names for a cat. All I have thought of so far is Josephine and Francessca. But apparently names with one or two sylables are ideal for cats (so they can recognise their name I guess).

So, please help me come up with some very human names. They don't even need to be names you like, just very human!

Thanks :)

Similar sounding...

your favourite? )

I do realize a few of those could be used as nicknames for the longer names, but which name is your absolute favourite of those?

Now a days its quite difficult to get a decent opinion on a name in the real world with all the trendy name lovers out there... All my names always get too old, too popular, to blah blah. When I think popular I dont think Elizabeth and Anna, I think Grace, Amelia, Emma, Neveah, Madison etc. When I think old I think Betty and Wilma etc. I think of Elizabeth and Anna and classic not old. I enjoy reading everyones comments on here becuase for the most part we receive a variety of people to the community with a variety of naming styles. We have some Madison lovers and we have some Wilma lovers and we have some Anna lovers. I enjoy that... so without futher or do a few question

1) Ben or Luke? I love Luke but I also love Benjamin. Which is better. Luke Philip or Benjamin Scott?

2) Elisabeth or Anna - Elisabeth Kate or Anna Felicity - love them both cant decide

3) I love love love the name Mary and I love the name Mary Kathryn. However I know what everyone says.. too catholic school girl/nun ish. But I dont care I like it. Would it be complete torture to name my daughter this. I love Mary and my name is Kathryn so its duel fold in reasoning :)

Thanks!

Did I ever tell you that Mrs. McCave
Had twenty-three sons and she named them all Dave?

Well, she did. And that wasn't a smart thing to do.
You see, when she wants one and calls out, "Yoo-Hoo!
Come into the house, Dave!" she doesn't get one.
All twenty-three Daves of hers come on the run!

This makes things quite difficult at the McCaves'
As you can imagine, with so many Daves.
And often she wishes that, when they were born,
She had named one of them Bodkin Van Horn
And one of them Hoos-Foos. And one of them Snimm.
And one of them Hot-Shot. And one Sunny Jim.
And one of them Shadrack. And one of them Blinkey.
And one of them Stuffy. And one of them Stinkey.
Another one Putt-Putt. Another one Moon Face.
Another one Marvin O'Gravel Balloon Face.
And one of them Ziggy. And one Soggy Muff.
One Buffalo Bill. And one Biffalo Buff.
And one of them Sneepy. And one Weepy Weed.
And one Paris Garters. And one Harris Tweed.
And one of them Sir Michael Carmichael Zutt
And one of them Oliver Boliver Butt
And one of them Zanzibar Buck-Buck McFate...
But she didn't do it. And now it's too late.
