no Too Popular, no Too Old....
Sep. 14th, 2006 09:12 pmNow a days its quite difficult to get a decent opinion on a name in the real world with all the trendy name lovers out there... All my names always get too old, too popular, to blah blah. When I think popular I dont think Elizabeth and Anna, I think Grace, Amelia, Emma, Neveah, Madison etc. When I think old I think Betty and Wilma etc. I think of Elizabeth and Anna and classic not old. I enjoy reading everyones comments on here becuase for the most part we receive a variety of people to the community with a variety of naming styles. We have some Madison lovers and we have some Wilma lovers and we have some Anna lovers. I enjoy that... so without futher or do a few question
1) Ben or Luke? I love Luke but I also love Benjamin. Which is better. Luke Philip or Benjamin Scott?
2) Elisabeth or Anna - Elisabeth Kate or Anna Felicity - love them both cant decide
3) I love love love the name Mary and I love the name Mary Kathryn. However I know what everyone says.. too catholic school girl/nun ish. But I dont care I like it. Would it be complete torture to name my daughter this. I love Mary and my name is Kathryn so its duel fold in reasoning :)
Thanks!

Date: 2006-09-15 01:20 am (UTC)2. Elisabeth. More nickname possibilities where as Anna is pretty limited...to Anna or Ann...maybe Annie. Elisabeth could be Beth, Liz, Ellie, Ella, Libby, etc. They're both common but the number of nickname possibilites for Elisabeth makes it a good choice.
3. Mary Kathryn DOES sound too much like a Catholic school girl, haha. I do like Mary, but I think paired with another name like that, it's too much like a Catholic school girl.

my first thought is Mary Katherine Gallagher from SNL (when i get nervous i put my hands in my armpits and i smell them like THIS!) so i think it's a bit much.
Mary Kate is just Olsen Madness so not really an option. Mary Katrina, or Mary Katrien, or possibly another name with the same meaning (I'm pretty sure it means light, maybe Chiara? no, wait, Mary Chiara has too much pirate r going on for my Buffalo accent!)

Date: 2006-09-15 01:30 am (UTC)elisabeth and anna are both perfect names, imo. i love them both.
i think mary kathryn is nice. i work with a woman (35-40) named mary catherine (who just goes by "m.c." mostly) and have a friend who is mary katherine (30), but goes by mary kate. your reason is lovely, and i just adore people who use names that have meaning.

Date: 2006-09-15 02:18 am (UTC)2. Hmmm...tough choice! I'd pick Anna Felicity, only because Felicity is one of my favorite names.
3. Mary Kathryn is very Catholic school girl, but I think Mary is a lovely name.

Date: 2006-09-15 02:34 am (UTC)Anna Felicity pretty much because I LOVE the name Felicity.
I knew a girl growing up named Mary Katherine and I never thought about the nun thing. I'm not big on Mary as a name (I'm not a huge fan of short girl names for some reasons), but I do like Kathryn.

Date: 2006-09-15 02:53 am (UTC)I like Benjamin better than Luke, but they're both great. Likewise, I love Anna Felicity best, but Elisabeth Kate is also beautiful.
I think Mary Kathryn is nice too... I can see that people would think of it as Catholic, but I don't think it is overboardly so.

Date: 2006-09-15 03:17 am (UTC)2. Anna Felicity. Anna and Elisabeth are both nice, classic names, but honestly I think Elisabeth is SO boring. Unbelievably boring! And I do consider it popular. Not trendy-popular, but still very popular.
3. I don't think it would be torture to name a girl Mary Kathryn, but I do think it sounds very nun-ish.

Date: 2006-09-15 03:27 am (UTC)2) Again not a fan of Elisabeth or Anna, I'd go for Anna though. Elisabeth Kate is better.
3) I thnk she'd get the nun comments but it is a pretty combo.

Date: 2006-09-15 03:47 am (UTC)I like Anna Felicity, though Felicity Ann sounds cool as well.
If you went with Mary as a first name and Kathryn as the middle, you would be able to avoid the nun thing for the most part. Of course it'll be brought up if anyone sees her first name with the middle, but it's not really a huge deal, I don't think. :)

Date: 2006-09-15 01:39 pm (UTC)1. I think Benjamin Scott is perfect. but I also like the other option too...
2. I agree with the above poster about loving the nickname possibilities of Elizabeth. However, I LOVE the combonation of Anna Felicity!
3. Mary Kathryn... I really can't think of anything but SNL! LOL But, like the other poster said, most people won't even know her middle name unless she goes by both first and middle. Mary is beautiful, classic and simple so I really like it. My middle name is Marie and I plan on using that as a middle name for my daughter (if I have one) since it is also my mom's and my grandmother's, so I couldn't have Mary... But, maybe you could mix your names differently. Maybe Mary Elizabeth? I do see how you like the symbolism with Mary Kathryn so go with it if you like it!
Sorry! I guess I wasn't a whole lot of help! I love all the names though! LOL

Date: 2006-09-15 03:09 pm (UTC)anyway to answer your questions!
1. Love them both, Luke Philip probably. Although i'm all for Lucas :-)
2. I do like Elisabeth Kate a lot but it does shout boring to me... Anna Felicity is one of the most beautiful names..(Felicity Anna, Felicity is far to gorgeous to be a rarely used middle name!)
3. Mary is one of my middle names, (marykate)i find it really ugly &..yes.. boring. I had a Mary in my class& even as a 6 year old i remember thinking her name was strange. But, if you like it enough then go for it. No doubt she will be the only one in her class running around with Maddysin's, and Emmerleigh's!
Mary Kathryn does sound like a nun though!

2) Elisabeth Kate.. or Elisabetta
3) yes, that would be too much, I think.... Mary Katarina maybe??
wow, lots of differing opinions on your name choices. :)

Date: 2006-09-15 04:38 pm (UTC)2- Elisabeth, by far. Anna is one of my least favorite names and I adore Elisabeth.
3- I LOVE Mary. I don't know about Mary Kathryn, but Mary is a GREAT name. It's so pretty and classic. I hate when people use it as an example of a "boring" name... like when they say "OMG!! Not everyone wants to name their kid boring things like Mary and John!" Ugh. I love it.

Date: 2006-09-15 05:36 pm (UTC)I like both Benjamin Scott and Luke Phillip But I dislike the nickname Ben.. So I'd have to go with Luke Phillip
I'd have to go with Elisabeth Kate. It's a bit more versitile than Anna, I think.
I have to say no for Mary Kathryn Anyone else see Superstar (http://imdb.com/title/tt0167427/)? Mary Katherine Gallagher... I have to say, I'd cry if I shared a name with her. lol.

3) I don't think it'd be torture, no. At least it wouldn't be Myckensie or whatever.

Date: 2006-09-16 12:34 am (UTC)I LOVE your names, very refreshing! I think Ben and Luke and Anna and Mary will appreciate it all later.
Mary is so underrated I think. I think it's pretty in a combo-name, but sounds great on its own. Mary Katherine is too much though...because of SNL. And Mary Kate is a no-go because of the twin. And Mary Alice because although it's pretty, it's the suicidal dead one on Desperate Housewives.
You could always just use Mary Kathryn and call her Mary, which is so pretty.
Pretty:
Mary Beth
Mary Lane
Mary Anna
Mary Elizabeth
Mary Nicole
