I just wanted to know what y'all think of the name Daisy Mae. It's presently my first choice for a girl's name. A few of my friends have expressed disdain.

[identity profile] ladyartemisa.livejournal.com 2006-08-07 09:13 pm (UTC)(link)
yeah I would have to express the same disdain.

it sounds like the name of a cow or a country girl that wears overalls and stuff. very green acres-ish.

LOL - I'm sorry. This is not meant as an insult in any way - but I had to laugh when I saw this... my grandmother's best friends name is Daisy (which is actually a cute name, I think). All my live I've called her Daisy Mae.. and that's not even her middle name.. but I kid with her about it -it made me smile to see someone wanting to name their daughter that. I think it's precious. Very southern.

[identity profile] elemmennope.livejournal.com 2006-08-07 09:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Daisy would be ok paired with something else, something more substantial and solid.

Mae, well I don't care for it because it drags down pretty much any combo into the realms of stupid-country-bumpkin. But with Daisy, this image is particularly bad.

You need to dress Daisy up. She needs a classic black dress, not a pair of denim overalls.

Daisy Charlotte
Daisy Elizabeth
Daisy Linnea
Daisy Miranda
Daisy Katherine

well, it's very 'sweet' sounding. i can imagine it would be very cute on a baby and on some adults as well. it's not my favourite but it's not a bad name & much better than a lot of what's popular at the moment! go for it if it's what you like the best- someone will always express disdain.

[identity profile] sageharper.livejournal.com 2006-08-07 09:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Both names are lovely, together or otherwise; but maybe as a combo it is a bit cutesy (i.e. might not age well).

[identity profile] oh-snitch.livejournal.com 2006-08-07 09:28 pm (UTC)(link)
I think it's precious.

[identity profile] calixbat.livejournal.com 2006-08-07 09:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Its cute however I knew a dog named Daisy so it seems more of a dogs name to me. Im not a huge fan of the name Mae either but its not bad. Its very cute. Its by no means horribly ugly and offensive, so if you love it I would say use it!

[identity profile] myglass-slipper.livejournal.com 2006-08-07 09:40 pm (UTC)(link)
I love the name Daisy Mae. Most people thin it's way too southern and makes you think of some blonde ditz.

But I think of just a sweet southern girl with freckles.

my favotire flower is a also a Daisy...Maybe that makes me love the name more?

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_x_blackroses_x/ 2006-08-07 09:49 pm (UTC)(link)
It's really cute....
but perhaps too cute. I like it for a pet. For a person, it *might* not age well & does have that country girl sound. I'm not sure.

[identity profile] mrsduryee.livejournal.com 2006-08-07 10:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, not to be stereotypical, but I think it's perfect if you live on a farm in Oklahoma.

I agree that Daisy is wonderful, but needs to be dressed up. As [livejournal.com profile] elemmennope suggested, Daisy Miranda could be called Daisy Mae for short.

I also think os Maisy....the perpetual cow name. :/

All I can think of is Beverly Hillbillies. Daisy Mae Clampet. I know a little girl named Daisy and everyone calls her "the flower child."

[identity profile] sayga.livejournal.com 2006-08-07 10:58 pm (UTC)(link)
i think that was Ellie Mae, wasn't it? or are you saying it could just as well be subsituted? :P i agree with you though, it definitely sounds hillbilly to me. :/

It does sound like a pet or hick name :/

Daisy Miranda would be nice though.

[identity profile] cerise-blue.livejournal.com 2006-08-07 10:21 pm (UTC)(link)
it sounds like the name of a pet or a small child. i can't imagine myself taking a grown woman seriously who was named daisy. it just doesn't sound right. i do love the middle name mae, though. my top girls name is elliot mae. :)

[identity profile] bloomingtulip.livejournal.com 2006-08-07 11:12 pm (UTC)(link)
PLEASE tell me you aren't really going to name a girl Elliot? That is so wrong

I'm surprised no one has mentioned this yet, but Daisy Mae is the name of Lil Abner's love interest in the comic strip-turned-musical "Lil Abner." Read More Here (http://www.lil-abner.com/daisymae.html)!

[identity profile] darabelle.livejournal.com 2006-08-07 11:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, and here are some lyrics from the musical... I was in this show in 6th grade and my sister played Daisy Mae, that's how I know all this. LOL

(Daisy Mae) Like he said, my name's Daisy Mae!
Cuz my ma, she planned it that way.
My one aim in life is to be a good wife,
And to marry Li'l Abner someday!

(Company) She's practicin' up chasin' gophers an' antelopes!
She ain't never caught Li'l Abner, but she's got hopes!

[identity profile] bloomingtulip.livejournal.com 2006-08-07 11:12 pm (UTC)(link)
I love the name Daisy but I agree with the other posters that that combo is particularly southern (in a bad way) and I would feel bad about an adult with that name.

[identity profile] arbus.livejournal.com 2006-08-08 12:10 am (UTC)(link)
i ADORE daisy, but yea...daisy mae is a bit much. a little too hick for me.

[identity profile] ellycopter.livejournal.com 2006-08-08 12:34 am (UTC)(link)
mae is my number one middle name for a girl, that spelling is my favourite (and not just because the band mae is one of my favourites). but 'daisy' reminds me of a dairy cow cartoon or something, sorry =\

[identity profile] super-bitch06.livejournal.com 2006-08-08 12:41 am (UTC)(link)
I'm definatly not a big fan of Daisy Mae. I don't think it will age well, IMO.

[identity profile] dolcedaze.livejournal.com 2006-08-08 01:49 am (UTC)(link)
I know a dog named Daisy Mae! I wouldn't use Daisy as a given name, but if you love it, it could be a cute nickname. Juliet Gordon Low (the founder of Girl Scouts) always went by Daisy, and that's nothing like Juliet!

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/-glass-/ 2006-08-08 02:45 am (UTC)(link)
it's too stereotypical for my taste. i like both names seperately.

[identity profile] jenni1310.livejournal.com 2006-08-08 03:39 am (UTC)(link)
Coming from a family with a Laura Mae and a long history in the South, Daisy Mae has a really strong connection with trailer park hick. I like the name Daisy, but I think you might want to reconsider the middle name.

[identity profile] sarahrose.livejournal.com 2006-08-08 03:42 am (UTC)(link)
Is Daisy Mae the first name or the first and middle?

As a first name, no, not that combo. As a first and middle, it's not bad. I like Daisy. Not the best combo ever, but it's all right.

[identity profile] hotmaildt.livejournal.com 2006-08-08 12:49 pm (UTC)(link)
I dont really like it...Im sorry :(

[identity profile] ilovehounds.livejournal.com 2006-08-08 02:29 pm (UTC)(link)
i think daisy is a sweet name, but NOT paired with mae. i'd choose a different middle name or make daisy the middle name and choose another first name.
