Giada De Laurentiis named her daughter Jade. I just found out that Giada actually means Jade in Italian. Would you name your child a form of your or your partner's name?

a friend of mine is due in November and is having a baby boy. she's decided on the name Xander Donovan. (Donovan is after her nephew who died a few years ago.) WDYT?

also, I have new neighbors with three kids -- Elizabeth (9), Nathan, and Natalie (twins; 4). I think it's a nice sibset, even if Nathan and Natalie are a bit matchy.

Do any of you absolutely the way a name is spelled, but absolutely love it when it is spelled differently? I don't mean Kr8tve spellings, I am thinking of stephanie vs Stefanie, or Steven vs Stephen, etc.

Personally I hate Stephanie and love Stefanie because of the cultural connotations for me.

How about you?

hello all!
i really need help picking out baby names! i am due january 8th, and my fiance and i have a "veto policy" (to which my favorite name, Vivian, was lost) and here are the names that have made it through the many difficult rounds:

boy names so far:
Oliver
Elliott
Ambrose
Milo
Finn (Finnegan)

girls so far:
Edith
Esther (fiance pushing this one, IDK...)
Nora
Ella, because my great grandmother was named Ella, until I found out everyone in the world is naming their kid Ella.

we will soon find out if it is a male or female, so that should help. also, my last name is diamond, so this will be the child's middle name (and i will retain it as my last name).

what do you think? suggestions welcome!

Ok here's somethign I need opinions for... My mother and I were speaking and we got on the subject of adoption and I mentioned how I've always wanted to adopt a child and she thought it'd be a sweet idea... now I've always wanted to adopt a 1 year old or 2 year old, in other words not a newborn. ow do you feel about changing this child's name? I know some people feel strongly about this so try and be polite. I wouldn't change the name of a child that is old enough to speak and I am not even sure about the changing name bit but hey... asking for opinions.

How does everyone here feel about naming boys after their fathers?

I am pretty against the idea personally. A child's only identity at birth is their name and I just think its important for them to have their own name and identity separate from their father (and mother, for that matter). Plus, how often do you hear of women naming their daughters after them?

I collect baby dolls. Well, sort of. I have four, two of which my mom bought for me today (the other two mom bought me when I was younger). I can't think of names for these two.

please help me )

One of my good friends is having a little girl in November.

Her name-to-be? Addison.
Her brother? Austin.

WDYT? Too close for siblings? I think so!

It's hard to criticize her name choice since she's such a good friend. I'm not a fan of Addison at all, but aside from that, I think it's way too close to Austin to use. I wonder if she even knows how similar these names are. Should I let her know, or mind my own business? This baby naming business can be tricky!

Just thought I'd get some opinions on some of my favourite names. :)
Girls first:
Alina, Audrey, Adriana
Eden, Elizabeth, Emmeline
Florence
Harper
Lena
Raina
Scarlett
Boys:
Alistair, Artem, Austin
Bennett
Caine
Elliott
Holden
Theodre

It seems I like names that start with vowels. Feel free to suggest some names I may like or make some name combos for me! I'm having trouble coming up with good middle names for a lot of these names.
