So I've been watching this community for quite awhile because, like many of you I really love names. But now desperation has driven me to make a post.  (Just  kidding.)

But seriously, a couple months ago I came acrossed the name Catriona. I really liked it, but I was pronouncing it phonetically I guess, pretty much so that it rhymed with Fiona. But on the weekend I read in a name book that it's actually pronounced like Katrina...which I don't like as much, and I would probably just spell it the latter way to avoid confusion if I ever did want to use it.

Anyways, my question is how do you pronounce Catriona? Would it be plausible to pronounce it to rhyme with Fiona, or would that be needlessly complicated and seem made up?

Thanks in advance!

I'm about six months pregnant with what the doctors are pretty sure is a girl.

Here is my list of names...But whether or not I still like them changes on a day to day basis (Hellooo, pregnancy hormones). I'd appreciate feedback, especially on whether some of them are TOO overused or TOO old-fashioned. My husband is providing minimal feedback in this area, so I've given up on his opinions. ;) The middle name will most likely be Jo or Elizabeth, but keep in mind that that's subject to change depending on if the husband decides to speak up or not.

Caitlyn (As long as no one calls her Caity) - Meaning: Pure
Violet - Meaning: Purple flower
Allison (Allie would be the preferred nickname here) - Meaning: Noble, kindness
Annabelle - Meaning: Grace, favor
Aurora (With the nickname Rory...Is that too pretentious?) - Meaning of Aurora: Dawn; Meaning of Rory: Red king o_O? That would work well with my father-in-law being that he looks like a redheaded Santa Claus (And the last name's King)...
Lainey - Meaning: Torch, bright light

Hm...Or now that I think about it, any other names that would result in the nickname of Rory? I kinda like that. :)

If I'm having a girl, I've been thinking more and more about the name Cora. WDYT?

Also, she'd be younger sister to Cressa. Are the names too close?

Obviously they're both "C" names, which I'm not sure about (I hate when families stick with one letter only, but if I had another, I wouldn't follow the pattern, probably). So, regardless of them both being "C" names, do they work ok together?

What would you say is the perfect middle name for esme?

I've gone through my list and babynamesworld.com's list and still, nothing really fits or rolls off my tongue right.

edit: AHA! Esme Elisabeth!

So my boyfriend LOVES the name Cole for our soon-to-be son. (After Joe Cole, the soccer player)
I like it, but it just seems not complete for me.. like it should be a nickname for another name.

I'm trying to find names where Cole can be the nickname.

So far we've come across:

Colton - he hates this name
Colby - I love it, but it might be kinda wimpy

Are there any other names that you guys can think of?

TIA

i think i've **finally** come to a decision on a name. i'm almost afraid to post it for fear of being berated and then doubting myself. i want to know what you think in terms of the two middle names thing. no one in my family has two middle names, but i'm torn about it and i want to use two middle names--but i think it might be too long.

so for better or worse..here are my names, parenthesis on the middle name that would be second if i chose to have a second name.

Boy:
Landry Mark (Otis)

Girl:
Ainsley Margaret (True)

edit: I should note that I'm due Nov 27th. And hopefully I'll find out here within the next month what I'm having.

What do you think about names that sound like one letter?

Examples: Dee, Bea, Jay, Kay, You, Vi, Zee

Similar (but not quite) examples: CeeCee, Lee, Abe

Would anyone consider using these names as a first or middle? Can you think of any others that are similar to the second set?

Thanks.

So I'm watching Ghost Hunters on Sci-Fi ((and doing a thorough job of freaking myself out too... ^ ^))  but there's one investigator's name that caught my eye:

Grant.

I've never really thought much about it, but after hearing people say it for a while, and seeing it printed on the screen, I kind of like it.  WDYT?

The other names from the show, bold are ones I like:
Brian
Jason nn Jay
Dave ((they call him Tango, which is his last name-- I really like that, actually, but I don't think it could be a real first name))
Kris ((she's female, don't know if it's short for Kristina or not))
Steve ((I like Steven but not Steve))
Heather

There's a bunch of others, but I don't remember because they're reruns and they lose/add team members all the time.
