I didn't realize my last post would be so controversial!

So here's a little game. Everyone who plays gets one turn to eliminate one name from each set. In the end, we see "who" the winners are--what names are the best/most-liked/whatever.

Ready, set, go )

Please do not repeat eliminations.

Oi. I'm expecting and my partner and I are having a very hard time with names. I'd LOVE opinions and even suggestions that may pop up as you read our current ideas.

Thanks Buttercups!

Here's a fun little game. Go to SSA and select any year you want and the 1000 list. I am using the year 1982.

Without looking at the list before hand make two seperate column of numbers as many as you wish. I'll do ....six

What do you guys think of the name Brandish, for a boy?

ETA: This is NOT my idea. This is the name someone is planning to name their child. It apparently used to be a last name -- but not the name of the parents, or a family name.

I know people feel really strongly about names, as do I, and I'm just wondering, do you have a list of names you'd never use? What about ones you'd CONSIDER using, but only if your future/current SO refuses to use the names you really like? Well, I have one and thought I'd share:

Recently I baby sat a little girl named Casadi, and her sister Deanna. But we're not talking about Deanna here, we're talking about Casadi *smile*

Well, I personally despise creative spellings, but I find myself completely in love with the sound and spelling of Casadi, because I adore the little girl. But would it be completely stupid to want to name a future child after a toddler with an awfully butchered spelling?

I know that I'm sixteen, and not planning on having children anytime soon, and I also realize that Casadi doesn't exactly fit along my name list, but I am completely in love with the name.

Cassidy would be better, or even Cassady, but I really, really like Casadi.

But here's the point of this post: I just got a new kitten (my seventh cat... ek!) and I want to name her Casadi, because I'm the type of person who names my animals after my favourite names.

Would it be stupid to put the name Casadi on a cat with that spelling, or should I just change it to Cassidy/Cassady and get over it?

Sorry if this seems rambled and confusing, but I didn't get any sleep last night, so, sorry.

I thought I'd post my latest list of names here. Just a refresher: not expecting, not planning on expecting any time soon. I just like names, ones that usually fall into categories labeled as "classic" or "modern classic", and that are not made up or spelled to creatively. Popularity does not scare me away, either. Nicknames (as in, would actively be referred to by said nickname) are in parentheses.

Check behind the cut for my list. )

My husband and I had a lot of trouble naming our daughter, because we played word association with a lot of names. He'd say "Lydia" and I said, "eyelids!" My friend said, "Nyla." DH said, "Nylon string!"

What are some of your word associations that go with names? Especially the bad/funny ones that would be such an overpowering association that it would prevent you from naming a kid that.

Hi =)

I've joined this community because I've always liked names - when I was younger I named practically all my toys - dolls, stuffed animals... I really enjoy playing with name combos and I'm a member of a baby names forum. I also tend to think carefully of names when I'm writing a story/fanfiction.
Although English is not my first language my very favorite names are all English and I would love to name my kids that... even though I probably won't. =(

Here are my favorite names! )

What names make you want to say, "Eff you, world! I am (seriously considering) using this name!"

Something you just love so much that you don't care about the spelling being difficult or the fact that it's your fiance's ex's mother's brother's name. Something that you love enough to use despite weird looks and/or grief from family and friends.

Go wild! Release your inner Johnny Rotten.

If you had sextuplets, 3 boys and 3 girls, what would you name them?

Girls: Elinor Susannah, Nico Louisa, Mathilda Katherene

Boys: Cyrus Jackson, Wyatt Charles, Jasper Thomas
