Thoughts on the spelling of Emmalee?

I know it's kinda really jumping over into the realm of kre8tiv which is really somethig i dislike fundamentally but what if the point of it is to use the spelling of "lee" like that to honor a family member? More acceptable under those circumstances? Why do I feel like it sounds almost "country" when spelled Emmalee instead of Emily?

I wouldn't. is Emily something you're stuck on. how about just using Lee as a middle?

I think Emma Lee makes more sense as well. Smushing them together is just.. Yuck.

Agreed. Make it two separate names over one horrid looking one.

You know, until you mentioned it, I didn't connect Emmalee with Emily at all. I guess I put the accent on the "Lee" in the former and the "Em" in the latter? I actually kind of like the way it looks, which makes me less likely to say it's a kre8tiv spelling, even though I guess technically it is...

I pronounced it "emma-lee" in my head, not emily. Perhaps spell it Emmilee? Also kre8tiv but at least the name would be pronounced correctly. I actually don't mind your spelling, just pointing out that the pronounciation might shift slightly.

I greatly dislike the spelling Emmalee, but if it was Emma Lee it would be fine.

Dislike. Either Emma Lee (as a first and middle name, if you want to go that route...) or Emily.

Don't care for it but it's not the worst thing you could do. If it has strong meaning for you, go for it. We have an Emily went with the spelling "Emilie" to honor our families' French heritage.

My aunt was named Eileen and was always called Lee. That's one possibility if you really want to use the name Lee. If you're set on Emily, use that spelling and nn her Lee.

I prefer Emilee, or even Emalee. Both are well received on behindthename.

I think it's because using the two m's in Emmalee doesn't look right to me.

Personally, I like Emmalee. I grew up with a girl in school named Emmalee, and I’ve liked that spelling ever since. Having said that, though, if you’re skeptical of that particular spelling, what about using Lee as a middle name? You know, Emma Lee. I’m rather partial to Emma as well, as we’ve decided to use that as our baby girl’s name. :D

I think Emma Lee would look better. That's just my humble opinion. :)

My friend's youngest is called Emmalee and I don't even think her reasoning was that good. Oddly enough I pronounce Emmalee just the way it's spelled, Ehm-mah-lee, but I say pronounce Emily with slight different focus, Eh-mill-ee. It's an okay name but now one I would choose. I like Emma Lee (second middle name) MUCH better. Even though I've gotten used to the spelling, it's just not my taste.

The worst thing about it as that people would always assume it was Emily, and spell it as such. And it does look like you were going for a mildly creative version of Emily. I would honestly just use Lee as a middle name. Or as a first name on its own.

Is is supposed to sound like Emily? If so, then no, please don't.

I like it. I know its technically "kreative" and I usually hate those, but I think it looks prettier than Emily.

I want to read it as two names: Emma Lee.

I much prefer Emily.

It doesn't bother me as much as some. As far as sounding almost "country", could be because it's similar to Emmylou (like Emmylou Harris)? Also, I think with having the distinct "emma" in there forces an almost pause (with the hard sound) half way through the name which mimics more of a sort of southern accent/dialect, rather than Emily which can more mimic a midwest accent where multiple syllables are slurred into one.

Friends of mine are currently pregnant and LOVE the name "Emma-Lee/Emma-Leigh" think it's "omg so unique!" ... I'm hoping they have a boy :X

Because it looks like one of those Southern double names - Emma Lee.

I don't see why you don't just go with Emma Lee, if you want to honor the family member. You can call her Emma Lee, or just Emma.
