Thoughts on the spelling of Emmalee?

I know it's kinda really jumping over into the realm of kre8tiv which is really somethig i dislike fundamentally but what if the point of it is to use the spelling of "lee" like that to honor a family member? More acceptable under those circumstances? Why do I feel like it sounds almost "country" when spelled Emmalee instead of Emily?

It doesn't bother me as much as some. As far as sounding almost "country", could be because it's similar to Emmylou (like Emmylou Harris)? Also, I think with having the distinct "emma" in there forces an almost pause (with the hard sound) half way through the name which mimics more of a sort of southern accent/dialect, rather than Emily which can more mimic a midwest accent where multiple syllables are slurred into one.
