What do you think of the names:

Carolina or Carolena

Both to be pronounced as ca-row-lee-nah

Nickname would be Cara

Trying to find a spanish/latin -ish sounding name that I like. Hubby was born in Spain, and I'd like to try and find something that isn't too overly ethnic. :)

Other names we liked were,

Elena
Natalia - Can't use this because his brother used that for his last kid. :)
Isabela
I also liked Gabriella, but he didn't.

Do you have any other suggestions???

I think it is. I just came back from a mission trip and one of our interpreters was Delia. She was as Hispanic as they come. :) She said it "dell-ee-uh," with a little hint of "day" in the e, of course.

I don't have any other suggestions, but I like the Carolina spelling better. I know someone named Carolina who goes by Lena.

It's worth it to teach her to correct people though. I think that kind of thing is important. And she can say, "It's CarolEEna, like CarolEEna Herrera." Isn't Carolina Herrera pronounced that way?

I guess by the time she's old enough to know who that is, the designer won't be cool anymore...hehe. Oh well.

i like carolina. my name is caroline and a few of my friends call me carolina (pronounced like the states) and i like it. whenever i go to a spanish/latin event for work, i am always introduced as carolina (pronounced with the lee sound instead of lie sound). i absolutely love it.

I really, really like Isabella and Elena. I love Gabriella too, but if your husband doesn't...

You might want to go with the spelling Carolena. It looks a little weird to me, but I think people would be more likely to pronounce it correctly, especially if you're in the US.

Maria is pretty too, and then you can combine it with other names. I think Maria Elena is lovely. Or Magdalena/Maddalena. My mom's name is Maria Maddalena. ^^

That's actually how we pronounce it, and it's Polish - my great-grandmother's name. I like it.

I like it spelled Carolena, then you are guaranteed people will pronounce it correctly, cause I personally would say Car-o-line-uh for Carolina. It's pretty and I love Cara for a nickname. Elena is great, too.

I love Caroline/a pronounced that way. It's the Danish way as well, and my favorite story when I was little was "Den Uartige Caroline" - Naughty Caroline. It was what I was going to name my son if he was a girl, the only name his dad and I could agree on since it could be both American, Danish, and Polish. We were going to spell it Caroline and pronounce it Cahr o lee na as well.

I also think Rebecca and Caroline sound good together as sisters, though I know you've said you call her Madison instead.

Other Spanish names, all women I work with:
Blanca
Alicia or Aliciana
Dolores (Lola, Lolita as nicknames)
Edith (pronounced slightly differently, not quite as ugly as it looks, but not sure how to phoenetically spell it)
Iliana
Marlena (Marlie as nickname)
Rosa, Rosita, Rosalie

Good luck!

Oh man, when the song "Three Marlenas" came out, everytime she heard it, my sister would do her 'Marlena face' (you kinda squint your eyes and do a dopey smile) while going "Ohh, John Black, I lurrrve you".

Good times.

And Iliana was a sweet girl, so I love that name now :)

The rest actually did belong to middle age women.

My name's Rosalie!

Rosalie isn't Hispanic, it's French bleh =/ words in ie always sound weird in Spanish.

But Rosalia and Rosali are Hispanic.

I meant it more as a nickname for Rosa. I work with a Rosa who also goes by Rosita and Rosalie.

I like Carolina better but I guess, people would pronounce it like "South Carolina" without the South, of course.

My suggestions are:
Catalina
Ana Cristina
Magdalena
Marcella
Teodora
Teresa
Simona
Selena
Nina
Noemi

I love Carolina (I'm also a Caroline). I think it looks better with an I, and my guess is that she would have to correct people both with pronunciation and with spelling if it were spelled with an E. I would pronounce Carolena "Ca-ro-leh-na" and I definitely wouldn't think to spell "ca-ro-lee-na" with an E.

I like all five but Elena. I prefer it as Carolina, too, but you'd probably have a bunch of people pronouncing it like the states that way. I like Isabela as Isabella, too, but I suppose spelling it that way wouldn't get the desired pronunciation in Spanish.

Other Spanish names I like:

Blanca
Carmen
Eva
Lola
Mercedes
Raquel
