So Behind the Name has a random name generator (what baby name site doesn't?), but it's got, aside from the typical one, some funny ones on the side. (Rapper names, Witch names, Hillbilly names, etc.) The one that had me lol'ing was the "Kreatyve" name generator:

I had to include the way the names are supposed to be spelled, otherwise I couldn't figure out if I liked them or not lol )

Came across a Myspace profile whose owner apparently likes the letter Y.

Baby #1, boy: Shayden Layne

Baby #2 is on the way, and I'm thinking it's a boy? If I was positive how to pronounce the first name, I'd be more sure: Danyl Aydynn

I'm thinking it's supposed to be "Daniel"?

Why? WHY THE FASCINATION WITH Y?

I really like the name Lydia, but I have a daughter named Leah. Do you think they're too similar?  Lydia is kind of Leah with an extra syllable.

Also, for a boy we love the name Samuel, but my husband's cousin just named her son Samuel. It's a pretty common name though, so it wouldn't be like we were stealing a really original idea right? The only thing is that the grandparents would have 2 grandkids with the same name, is that weird? The cousin though is really nice, I don't think she would be mad or anything like that, but I don't want people saying we stole her name. WDYT?

So I was thinking of the name "Madison" today, for some odd reason, trying to remember who or what happened that made this name so popular in the past few years. After pondering for a few moments, I gave up and decided to bring it up here.

The first Madison I can remember was my geography teacher's newborn daughter back in 1999 (Madison & Michael - twins). At first I thought Madison was a boy, and I was (just) alright with the name, but when I heard she was a little girl I couldn't believe that she'd name her DAUGHTER Madison.

Well, since then, I've heard it countless times ONLY on girls and I still hate the name. Sounds masculine to me, and I'll always think of it as a last name.

When did you guys first hear the name and what did you think of it? And why in the world do you think it got so popular so quickly? I think it's such an odd name.
