[identity profile] sarapod.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
Came across a Myspace profile whose owner apparently likes the letter Y.

Baby #1, boy: Shayden Layne

Baby #2 is on the way, and I'm thinking it's a boy? If I was positive how to pronounce the first name, I'd be more sure: Danyl Aydynn

I'm thinking it's supposed to be "Daniel"?

Why? WHY THE FASCINATION WITH Y?

Thinking about it, if we could get ALL names to have all "y"'s in place of any other vowel, then spelling would be a bunch easier!

..I'm starting to believe it's somebody's plan!

I dunno, dude. I'm a synesthete and Y is the ugliest letter-color to me, so count me out.

Sounds a lot nicer than mine. My Y is DIRTY DIRTY off-white/beige, really grungey.

Ew. Mine is pale yellow, so I guess it's kind of okay.

Danyl would be Dan-ull.

I just don't get this "they need to be different! the names need to be unique!!" stand that people insist on. It's the same name, so it's not unique. You're just an idiot who spelled it wrong.

Maybe because Y is a rare/unique letter?

I mean, it used to be...now it's in every name, and not so unique anymore. I predict the next trend is throwing in random 'q's in names!

By the way...I read Danyl as Dan-il. I don't see how that could be Daniel, either.

I went through and replaced all the vowels in my name with y (except a few o's) and I have to say, and surprised and impressed with how much cooler my name looks now. Of course, it would no longer be pronounced as anything remotely resembling my name, but hey, you can't have everything. Maybe I can figure out how to work a few z's and x's in there, too...

Maybe Danyl is supposed to be pronounced like Danny-el. I guess you could argue yl makes a 'yul' sound, but there really ought to be another vowel there.

"WHY THE FASCINATION WITH Y?"

It's all about the Scrabble points, baby. There seem to be a lot more Js than are strictly necessary floating around too. Not to mention the abomination that is "Jaxon". 8 extra points for the x!

Well, my middle name has a Y in it (and it's actually one of those names), but I don't think that it's that bad. Danyl Aydynn is awful though. Awful. Gross.
