One of my boyfriend's big guilty pleasures is "Star Trek." He was talking about it last night and I had a bad name flashback.

One of my exes was in the Navy. I remember him mentioning a few times that one of his fellow privates was named Starship Constellation. His parents were apparently huge "Star Trek" geeks. At the very least, I think his last name was something standard like Jones, and since everyone generally referred to one another by their last name, I guess that was what kept him from going on a killing spree. From what I remember, though, his superiors made fun of his name constantly, calling him Private Jefferson Starship, Private Dipper, Private Spock, etc.

I guess maybe it could have been worse, his last name could have been Dancer.

Hi, I'm new to this community and just after some opinions and suggestions (especially regarding middle names) on the following:

James Matthew
Alexander *middle name*
Benjamin *middle name*

Sophia *middle name*
Kate *middle name*
Emma or Ella *middle name* (also which do you prefer, Emma or Ella?)
Isabel *middle name* or perhaps Isabel as a middle name for a different first name...?

Or just any other names that would suit this 'style'?

I'm not even close to having kids right now, I've just been thinking about names a lot lately in my current state of unemployment :P

Thanks :)

Hi, I don't post very often, nor do I comment very often, but today I have a question.

I've been seeing the name James used for girls lately, and I am perplexed.
Can anyone explain the occurance, is it a trend, or something?
I've ALWAYS seen James as a boys name (it's very masculine).

Thanks in advance.

Pick your top 5 names (first and middle) or each gender, and then go to www.behindthename.com and find names that have the same meaning. Pick a new top 5 based on these names!

Example:

Catherine [pure] Mary [sea of bitterness] becomes... Rosamund Miriam.

Mine are in the comments!

so he wants arabic names, i want "american" names as well as a chinese name. he is completely against the idea of using two middle names. as a compromise, we would do a simple arabic name that my very very asian father can pronounce. when i say very very asian, i'm talking the man still has trouble saying my name and its Julie. he just calls me by my chinese name.

actually, we kinda agreed with would be -

Arabic Chinese (or vietnamese since those can be spelled a little easier) Surname

now here's my problem...coming up with simple arabic names that my father can say and that people would pronounce correctly with relative ease. (my SO has an arabic name that well, no one pronounces properly. not even me. i know how to but im so used to using his nickname that its pointless)

I've got plenty of girl names - Leyla, Inara, Kadira, Azra, Aneesa

but not very many boy names...Aden, Samir, Radi

we would like names that are a little less uncommon than Mohommed and Hakeem (although my father can pronounce Hakeem thanks to Hakeem Olajawon)

anyone have ideas? thoughts? criticisms of the names we have picked?

What do you think of the name Drake?

Twin sister named Aria, older sister named Myra. We're really having a hard time with the boy name. Drake was to be my name had I been a boy so that's why I thought of it.
