of course, like many of you, i'm obsessed with names. i have a huge file of celebrity baby names that i keep on my computer not only for inspiration, but also just for fun.
awhile ago, i posted it & i seemed to get positive feedback. i update it whenever i hear about a new baby name. since it's been quite some time, i decided to repost it.

NOTE: the list is way too large to post in its entirety, so i was thinking of splitting it up into 3 sections:

PART I: GIRL'S NAMES
PART II: BOY'S NAMES
PART III: STATS (most popular names, most popular first/middle combos, weirdest names, etc)

if you have anything to add/edit, let me know. enjoy!

Grant: What do you think of this name?

Andrew: Should someone by that name go by the nickname Andy or Drew? What's your preference?

Edit: What about the name Cullen? Your thoughts?

What are your thoughts on Soleil?

I met a little girl (maybe ten or eleven years old) with this name recently and it's been bouncing around in my head ever since. I can't decide how I feel about, though.

so i just saw this commercial for these new dolls i think they were called TIM's or something like that. but the dolls names are what really bothered me.

Frankie
Charlie
Denny
Tatiana (i think thats what it was)
and Shea..

They were ALL girl dolls. as in they werent male dolls. not just that they were meant for little girls to play with.
I dont know why. but it just really bothered me that little girls now have to play with dolls that have BOY names. it just seemed so wrong. :(

I miss my barbies. lol Anyways, I was just wondering what you're reaction to this commercial might be x.x

Hi! Here in my country (Argentina) we don't have those birth announcements you people have, so i often look to dead people announcement to read their family names... yeah, i know it's not the nicest thing to do, but it's the only way to "keep in touch" with new names. Here are some from today's newspapers.

The list )

What do you think?

Good Evening!

I am looking for suggestions for naming my hero in the story that I'm working on. He's an FBI agent, mid thirties. Born and raised in Seattle. Good at his job, great sense of humor, but a bit of an anger management problem. His back story isn't fleshed out yet. Currently manifesting himself as Nathan Fillion (Drive, Firefly/Serenity). His current name is Nathan Reynolds (but its just a joke). I don't think Italian or Spanish origin names will fit. Maybe something Irish/Scottish/German etc without being slapped in the face with it - Angus McGee he will not be:)

First Middle and Last are fair game!

Thanks in advance for any and all suggestions. This community has been an excellent resource!

Hi. I used to browse/post to this community a lot in April/May, but I've been computer-less for most of the summer. I'm Jewish and all my children are going to have Hebrew names (I'm not married yet, so it's awhile into the future)...however, I used to like to post asking how certain names would be received in the non-Jewish community...so, I currently have a list of seven names (and yes, it's possible that I may have that many children. I have no idea at this point. We'll see.) So:

(ETA pronunciation, to the best of my phonetic-writing ability)

Miriam Chana (g) (Mee-ree-ahm Khah-nah) <--said gutterally, like Scottish "loch" or German "ach"
Ezra Aharon (b) (Ez-rah Ah-hah-roan)
Rivka Leah (g) (Riv-kah Lay-ah) <--NOT Lee-ah
Akiva Menachem (b) (A-kee-va Men-ah-khem) <--gutteral "ch" again
Hadassah Ruth (g) (Hah-dah-sah...I think everyone can pronounce Ruth)
Moshe Simcha (b)  (Moe-sheh Sim-kha) <--another gutteral "ch"
Tamar Aliza (g) (Tah-mahr Ah-lee-zah) <--NOT "Eliza"

These have somewhat changed from what my favorites used to be. I'm currently having a love affair with the names Miriam and Rivka and really want to use both as first names (my favorite used to be Rivka Miriam). What do you think?

Daouda

I was watching a show tonight and there was a black man on it named "Daouda" (die-ooda) and I instantly fell in love with it. It's an African name meaning "hardworking." What do you think of it? Is it too "ethnic" or just plain "weird?" I'm trying to compile some names that I like and I'm finding it very hard to come up with boy names, so it's rare when one jumps out at me.

About the guy I get my tattoos from and noticed his son had a unique name Cyprian. I've never heard it before but I think I like it. What do you all think?
