less than 9 weeks to go.  I thought we had at least decided on the first name.  but now, I'm not feeling so sure. so here I am.  again.   it's  late, so I'm keeping this simple.

Eleanor? Georgia?  thoughts on either.  ok. go.

I adore Eleanor. It's one of my favorites. I don't care for Georgia much.

I love both of them! I love all the nice nicknames for Eleanor. And if there wasn't already a Georgia in my family I would consider it for a future daughter.

I love Georgia. I think it sounds so nice. And I kind of like Eleanor... but mostly because then I think of Eleanor Rigby and I like that song.

I like Georgia much better than Eleanor, but I really love Georgiana

You can't go wrong, they're both great names! If somebody told me I must name my daughter either of those names, I wouldn't know which to pick because I like them equally, so I can see your predicament.. maybe you can check their popularity and whether it's rising and pick the less popular one?

Georgia sounds a bit too southern belle for me, but I come from Portland where that's not as cool as it might be where you are. And I think Eleanor is gorgeous and has better nick-names (George, Georgie, and Gia vs. Ellie, Ella, and Norrie)

I like Eleanor. Georgia I like if I think of the Ray Charles song but other than that it is a little southern for my tastes!

Eleanor is one of my top names. Georgia is ok, but doesn't have that same elegance and spunk to it as Eleanor, IMO.

I think I like Eleanor more but I'm pretty neutral to both of them. They are both nice enough names, but neither rocks my world.

I love them both...I know that doesn't help, though! Maybe you could wait for baby and name her whichever she most looks like. I know it might stink a little to be unsure, but it could also be really exciting!

I um don't care for either. :(

Eleanor is my moms name.. and I've never liked it. *shrug* I am not a huge fan of the whole Elle, ellie craze either. I do like Nora as a nn but then I figure you'd have to use Eleanora and not Eleanor.

Georiga.. I knew a georgina and I didn't like her.. or her name. Everyone called her georgie and I just didn't like it at all.

Sorry to be such a downer on your names.

Maybe you can wait until the baby arrives and choose which name seems to fit her once she's born. :) Sometimes the name you pick out doesn't always fit once they are born.

Good luck!

I like them both, but of the two I think Georgia is more unusual and interesting. Eleanor is a nice name, but it feels a little overdone and yuppie to me.

I think it's totally a perception thing, you know? It's only #265 on the social security list, so it's not like she'd be one of four Eleanors in her class.

True, although there seem to be a lot of Ellies and Ellas popping up

Eleanor, because it has a lot of nicknames. I always wanted nicknames but my name doesn't allow for any.

Me too!!! Claire just can't be shortened, and there was a point where I was the only girl in my whole class without a nickname. *sniff*

I agree with what a lot of others have said about Eleanor. I think it has a lot of great nicknames that could be derived from it [Elle, Ellie, Nore, etc.] I've never particularly liked Georgia, as it is a bit too Old South sounding for me, and even being from the South, I don't like those kinds of names. However, if you love both names equally, plan a nickname for both that you like, and decide when you see her. You might feel one way with her in utero, but it may be totally different when you see her little face for the first time. Good luck!

plan a nickname for both that you like,

That should be plan a MIDDLE NAME for both, not nickname.

Id go for Elanor, only cause it can be shortend to Ellie, i dont really love either, but if i had to choose, that would be it.

Eleanor is my favorite, but I think maybe you should wait until you have the baby and then decide which name suits her best.

I like them both alot!
But I say Georgia because Eleanor is more apt to get popular.
Ultimately, you have to go with your heart though.

I won't be much help at all, because I love them both. If I had to choose I'd go with Eleanor, though. But Georgia is so lovely, too. I think you'll win either way.

I agree with what Velvetheart said... Wait until you see the baby and see which one suits her best. Good luck :)

I like them both, but I think you should go with Georgia... Eleanor is a lot more popular now.

Georgie is actually an adorable nn for a kid IMO (I like "GiGi" too)...

:)!

Why not "Georgia Eleanor" - it's a really classy, beautiful name.

I am not crazy about either, but if I had to pick I would Georgia. When I think Eleanor I think old woman. But then again it's your child and your decision. Let us know which you choose!! Good Luck

I'm not crazy about either, but if I had to pick one it would be Georgia. Eleanor reminds me of an old lady, and I know a really bitchy woman by that name. Eleanor seems to be gaining popularity - probably because it's one of those names that has a cute nickname (Ella, Ellie), but can be used in it's full form when she's an adult. I've never actually met anyone named Georgia, so no bad name associations there.

My name is Eleanor and I've always liked it. People frequently say complimentary things about it when I introduce myself, which implies to me that many people approve of it. Though I was recently informed that it's a "nice old lady name" when I went to get my license renewed.
I used to go by Ellie quite a bit--it's a cute nick name. My friends now usually just call me El if they want my attention, as it's fastest to say.
Another thing to consider is that if there is another Eleanor in your child's class, she probably goes by a different nick name. I had an Eleanor in my ballet class for a couple of years, but I was Ellie and she was Nellie (only marginally better than the same name, but better all the same).
