I know I made a post similar to this a few days back, but I was wondering about which name you PREFERRED.

Beatrix
Beatrice

Personally, I am undecided.

Beatrix is beautiful because it is less common, and we all know Beatrix Potter. I don't like it though because it could be shortened to 'Trixie'.

Beatrice is lovely, but slightly more common, and to me has a more old-dumpy-lady feel to it.

Beatrix, but I'm not a fan of either.

It sounds younger and hipper than Beatrice, which makes me think of Aunt Bea from The Andy Griffith Show. I love that show and I love the character, but she's old old old to me, and so is the name.

I don't love the nn Trixie, but I don't hate it. :)

I know two Beatrices who go by Trixie. I personally like Beatrice better. Beatrix just looks/sounds harsh to me, and slightly masculine. Both names are uncommon so I wouldn't consider that a big factor.

I prefer Beatrix. It has more of "kick", I guess.

I think Beatrice is lovely - softer and prettier than Beatrix, which actually has more 'old lady' associations for me.

I think I prefer Beatrix although neither are really my style. I guess it's because I agree Beatrice sounds more old fashioned. The Bride in Kill Bill is called Beatrix!

I find Beatrix completely atrocious.

I like Beatrix more.

It has that uncommon sassy, spunk to it. It has a letter X - I'm a real sucker for a letter X. I wonder if the coming movie Miss Potter will have any effect on this name. People are loving the old-fashioned stuff lately...

Beatrice looks like beat-rice which was how I pronounced it as a kid (some book I read) and while not common, just seems boring. I picture a boring bland person being named beat-rice.

Makes me think of Beatrix Kiddo, which could be good or bad depending on your opinion of Tarantino.

I like them both, but I'd also be afraid of nicknames like "Bea" or "Trixie", which are both pretty lame. Hmmmm.

I like Beatrice because that's the spelling I'm more familiar with from Shakespeare and Dante. I love how it's pronounced in Italian, but I don't think a kid could really get away with that pronunciation in the US.

(NB: I am really bad at writing things phonetically, but I'll try and give you the gist)

Beh-ah-tree-che

(first syllable should be almost like bay but with a little more 'e' sound)

I like Beatrice, because I associate with Shakespeare's play "Much Ado About Nothing". And that girl had personality. And I'm just not a fan of the "x" sound. Trixie sounds like a ditz or a stripper and Beatrix reminds me of Bellatrix Lestrange from Harry Potter.

or go for the Spanish spelling...

I like Beatrix because of Beatrix Potter.... but I think the name Beatrice sounds nicer... I don't like that "icks" sound at the end of Beatrix.

I was named after the character Beatrice in Dante's Divine Comedy, who was Dante's guide through Paradise). She was also a real person named Beatrice Portinari, who lived from 1266-1290. As a sort of mythic figure, she appeared in a lot of Pre-Raphelite paintings.
I go by Bea, and I've always liked my name. Oddly enough, I have never met another Beatrice face to face, and I'm 34.
