in my school there is a; Charmayne, Germaine, Chermaine, Shermain and a Sjarmayne all pronounced as; Cher-mà-ne
and i know a boy named Germain

i dont know if i like Charmayne as name
and i dont know what to think about all those ways of writing it.

trasshhhhyyy.

unfortunate because i believe it's french & i do so ♥ french names. It's rather like Chantelle, has been adopted by a certain type (god im a snob!) but should be pretty.

uhm, what certain type?

my daughter's name is Germaine! I wouldn't associate all those other names with it, though. I mean, sure they're derived from the same name, but... well, I just don't like them.

I thought of you (well, your daughter actually) when I read this post. :)

and I thought what you said too, that Germaine sounds different/I wouldn't associate it with Charmayne (any spelling).

This is going to be a poor example, but it would be like saying that Gerry and Sherry were versions of the same name, instead of just names that rhyme.

that is entirely possible. I can sort of understand how a "g" might get prn. like that... but here those specific names have different sounds. :)

My aunt's name is Charmaine. We call her Charm (SHARM)for short

Charmaine is fine, Germaine is not a pretty name at all.

Ew. No offense.

It's okay. Not exciting. Makes me think of "Charmain Carr" who played Liesel in the Sound of Music. That's the first thing I thought of.

I know a Charmaine.

They sound a bit different in American english, different than your way of saying them, and different from each other. In general, it's a pretty harsh sound to me - not very pretty. I tend to like softer sounds.

Also I went to high school with a girl named Germaine who was the snobbiest, over-privileged beeotch around - not a nice girl in the slightest.
