Please comment with the area you live in/grew up in (whichever is more relevant to how you pronounce things) and the way you would pronounce this name:

Zhanne. I grew up in southern England but with French-speaking friends (and parents). Our school violin teacher was named Jeanne, and was from Brittany.

My boyfriend says he'd say it like jay-ann but with a soft sounding French "j" so it would sound more like shay-ann but with a "j" sound.
He was born in Montreal but moved when he was 3.

As for me, I'm not sure how to say it. I first wanted to say it like the French guys name "Jean" but I know that's not right.

In my head I read it as Jee-nee for some reason every time I see this name. I know some pronounce it Jeen but I can't think it for some reason.

"Jean" or "Genie" either or.
Although I think using that spelling for either of those pronounciations is weird.

I live in St Paul MN and grew up here and that name would make me bang my head into a keyboard. I have been speaking French for 12 years, lived in France for a bit, and worked summers at a French immersion camp for 6 years.

I have no idea how I would pronounce it as an American. My French has corrupted me, and I would want to say "Zhahn," but I know that it wouldn't be that way in English.

Lake Charles, Louisiana (in the western-most parish in Acadiana--"Cajun Country")

I saw zhahnne, or at least that's the best way I can describe it. Definite n-sound at the end, as opposed to Jean (zhawnh, with barely an 'n'--more like a nasal aw).

Weird to see it pronounced "jeen." The only thing I pronounce that way is either related to my DNA or to my everyday fashion choices.

Jean or Jean-e, I'd ask the person how they pronounce it, but would assume Jean off the bat.

(California, Virginia and Arizona mostly)
