i live in southeast ohio and i would pronounce it gene/jean. but that probably has nothing to do with where i'm from and just how i read it.

oh, no, i totally hear that. i asked because i was considering Jeanne as a name or middle name for a minute... my little cousin has it as her middle name. she lives in Quebec and it's pronounce Zhanne, like a couple of commenters said they'd say it. I like it pronounced that way, but it looks like it wouldn't fly in the US lol.

(this isn't to say OMG YOU GUYS ARE ALL PRONOUNCING IT WRONG WTF. 'gene' or 'genie' *is* the common pronounciation in the US as far as i can tell)
