May. 17th, 2006 09:10 pmIn another comm. someone asked what everyone's favorite boy and girl names are...
sooo many people said Jordan for girls. Funny thing is Jordan is one of my favorite names for a BOY but I HATE it for a girl. Same goes for the name Bailey. Thoughts? Is anyone else like this? where you love a unisex name for one gender but hate it for the other?
also...someone said her ex-boyfriend's name is Lindsey...and while my kneejerk reaction was pretty much wtf? it's kinda growing on me now...

Date: 2006-05-17 07:41 pm (UTC)because of that, i have started to prefer that names of that sort (Alexis, Jordan, Shelby, etc) for boys.

Date: 2006-05-17 08:06 pm (UTC)And while Skylar/Skyler is a unisex name, it's my daughter's name, but I dont really like it for a boy-i guess mainly because the nn Skye seems feminine to me...
Kelly and Ashley should be for girls only too!!
Oh and Peyton..I think it should be a boy name.

Date: 2006-05-17 08:17 pm (UTC)And Lindsa(e)y is TOTALLY a girl's name!! Haha, okay, so maybe I'm a little biased, but it's definitely a girl's name.

Date: 2006-05-17 09:49 pm (UTC)Jordan will forever be a girl's name to me thanks to the TV show Crossing Jordan. Lindsey, I had always known was a boy's name, but until Lindsey McDonald on Angel, I couldn't imagine naming a boy Lindsey. Now I totally can. I actually prefer it on boys, because on boys it seems interesting - on girls, it screams "bitch" to me, because all five of the Lindsays/Lindseys I've know have been complete and total jerks. Not saying they all are, but it's just that little automatic reaction, you know?
(Anyone else get the sinking feeling that in ten/twenty years, there's going to be comments of "OMG, Jackson/Tristan/Tyler is a GIRLS name, how could they name a BOY that?!" 'Cause I do. I mean, it's already happened with Madison, and Aiden, and tons of others.)

Date: 2006-05-17 11:20 pm (UTC)ya! that's kind of why it's growing on me...you don't hear it often for a boy [even though originally it was i know] and i think that's what makes it unique.
haha yeah good call about the jackson/tristan/tyler. i guess it's just all relative to time.

Date: 2006-05-17 10:36 pm (UTC)Courtney will always be a boys name to me... Maybe it is a coastal thing, I grew up in the east with only male Courtneys and out west I have only met girl Courtneys.

Date: 2006-05-18 02:52 am (UTC)And I know a few boys called Ashley too, over here if you say your son was called Ashley, most people wouldn't be like "omg why did you call him that, it's a girls name" it's just accepted as a boys name i guess.
I do like Jordyn for a girl though, only spelt like this =)

Date: 2006-05-18 02:53 am (UTC)We already have Owen picked out for our boy's name, if we are having a boy. If it is a boy and in the future our next baby is also a boy, I want to name him Bailey.

Date: 2006-05-18 06:58 am (UTC)There are some names that have gone so far into 'girl territory' or just absurdly popular for girls that I can only really see them as female names; otherwise I tend to prefer unisex names on boys. Particually 'surnames' and such (though Harper is 'all girl' to me as my main association is Harper Lee).
All those girls being given trendy Mc- or -son names drive me nuts, as those pre/surfixes mean 'son of', y'know as in a male child. *rolls eyes*

For Lindsey I think it works for both genders quite well. I think of Lindsey Buckinham (I think that's his name) from Fletwood Mac.

Date: 2006-05-18 08:50 am (UTC)Bailey is definitely a girl's name for me, but I can go either way on Jordan. I like Jordan better for a girl, but it's ok on a boy I guess. I don't think Lindsey works for a boy at all. Way too feminine nowadays.

Lindsay- I hate hate hate this name on anyone!
I love Quinn for a girl, not so much on a boy.
