Thank goodness you wouldn't use them, in most cases (although I really like Hero). Skara-Brae is an abandoned Neolithic village and the name means "Cormorant Mounds", it is not something you should call a person!

Your phonetic rendering is odd - 'ea' is not an 'a' in 'heaven', so you would be meaning "keh-veh-naw" in your example, which is not how the name is actually pronounced by its owners.

Heh. It's a fascinating place, and I would love to go up and see it, but I definitely wouldn't recommend it as a name (even for a fictional character, TBH).

Your first language is German, isn't it? The a in Cavanagh (however spelled) is like the a in nach if you have an Irish accent, or the a in das if you're English. [This is assuming my German accent is good enough for you to get what I mean in both cases! It's nearly two years since I was last in Germany so I'm out of practice.]

Skara-Brae is very awesome and I would definitely recommend visiting there. I went while on holiday a few years ago and it was tres nifty. ^^

But yes, definitely not a good name for a kid!

Well, I like Rogue. Wilder might be a cute middle name on a boy, especially if his first name was something ordinary like Jack or John.

Okay all the girls names sound like food, pet names, or PETA.
All the boy names sound literary.

I don't think any of those are a go for children, but yeah I agree with you, those are crazy!!

Ooooh....but I :LOVE the name Lavender!! I would def. consider it for a human child..:) And I admit that mostly has to do with the Harry Potter books. I don't think Lavender is too farfetched.

Lavender is cute! I'd use it if I didn't have a color last name!

Ermm... let's just say I'm glad to hear that you would never actually use any of those names!

my sister actually had a friend in middle school named Aja, but pron. Asia...it can work. the others are pretty far-fetched though i'll admit skara-brae is interesting and not necessarily in a bad way. but it's quite a mouthful.

but yes, i'm also glad to hear you wouldn't use those ;)

...someone's been reading Wicked? ;)

All I can say is that aside from Wilder, I'm happy to know you're not actually thinking of using these.

Well the names are from a novel that became a Broadway musical.

I'd have thought of Hero and Midnight more as boys names..
I know what you mean where you feel really drawn towards a name but know that you could NEVER actually use it. I had the same thing with Indigo for a boy, but it's a colour and everyone else seems to think of it as a girls name!
Asia sounds so lovely as name, such a shame that it's a place too!
I kinda like Peta, but I would probably pronoce it Pee-ta.
I have to admit I feel drawn to Midnight, but more as a boys name than a girls name.
Pharic is so similar to the word phallic!

GIRLS:

Midnight - Great name for a panther; just not a name for a person
Peta - Not my style but an ok name
Raven - Nah. I know people use this but it doesn't seem right.
Skara-Brae - For some reason I read this as Skara-bunny. I'm too tired! But now that I've read it properly; no.

BOYS:

Kellen - Sounds pretty good
Montague - Alright, can't remember where I've heard it before though
Orpheus - Matrix
Pharic - Reminds me too much of phallic

I...dislike...all of them except for Raven.

I know people with those names!
Peta & Raven - are what my mum would call hippy names, but the people i know with the names make the names ok.

I love the name Raven. Raven Marie is actually what my boyfriend and I are considering naming our child if it is a girl.

Peta is a legitimate name, if unusual. Hero is archaic but not unheard of. The rest of the girls' names read like a roster of pole dancers.

The boys are a bit more acceptable. I like Hawthorne and Montague. I love Orpheus and Fiero but would never use them. The rest are a bit too out there.
