When choosing between spellings, I think it's better to use the more popular one, to cut down on errors, unless it's a family name or something. Sarah was #12 last year and Sara #68, so I would use Sarah.
Do you personally say them the same way or not? Some people do pronounce them differently - so in order to answer, it would be useful to know if this is just a spelling difference for you or if you say them differently as well.
dolcedaze thinks the extra H is better, because its more common, but I think its quite the opposite. I'd rather my daughter have a name spelled uniquely (which it is) rather than the normal way that most girls will have. Does that make any sense, or am I rambling?
Yeah. Of course that's it. Delanie is NOT that hard to spell. In fact, I went to school with a Delaney, and even she had her name misspelled. Its like Haley. You can spell that way many different ways. None are "wrong" or "right," they are just different.
yeah, honestly, this 'unique spelling' shit is getting to me in a personal way.
Lorelei is the original, established spelling of the name, as far as i know. but because of all these people being like 'lolol Lorelai/Loralie/Laureli!11111' no-one can spell my damn name. i mean, if you've never heard the name, you'll have trouble of course, but MOST of them have heard it... and spell it in the 'kre8tiiv' way.
erghhhhh sorry bad mood, nothing personal against anyone... just rambling hahaha.
I see what you're saying, but here's my take on it- I like unique names, too, and I like to stay away from names that are in the top 1000 at all, but I'd rather a name be unique on its own, not because of an uncommon spelling. With Sarah/Sara it's not quite as important, since both are pretty common, but my name is Emily, and although I'd love to have a name that was much less common, I can't imagine what a pain it would be if my parents had spelled it "Emmalee" or something just for the sake of being different.
Meh - I think it's just a pain to have to correct people. It's still the same name. If there are four girls named Madison in her class, they'd still be called Madison B, Madison S. etc. It doesn't matter if they use different spellings.
I think either way is legit. Both are well-established spellings.
Personally, I'd use Sara, but only because I think it is more easily "convertible" to other languages - it would still be pronounced the same in Spanish or French or Slavic languages, where silent final h's aren't the norm.
"Sarah" conjures up a softer image than "Sara" does to me. I think the "h" makes it more feminine. I personally prefer Sara for this reason, as I think Sara sounds harder and more tomboyish than Sarah.
Sara. I think the "h" makes it more old lady-like. Plus, I think it looks prettier without it. I had a friend named Sara who always though that it was pronounced sare-ah as Sara and sah-rah- as Sarah. I don't think this is true, although it does make sense.
Sara...because that is the name of 'the little princess'- Though i think they are both very boring, annoying names & would never ever use them. & yes i do look at them as two different names. Sa-rah (sar rhymes with air) & Sar-a (sar rhymes with car).
One of my parents didn't realize there were two spellings until they started discussing it for me. As far as I see it, they are pronounced the same way.
I prefer it with the h but either way I always get the question when people are writing my name "with an h?" Once I told someone one "Sarah, with an h" and they spelled it Shara...you just can't win sometimes. Its so common either way that it has ended in me ignoring my name being called because more often then not people are talking to someone else...

So I agree... Go with the more popular.
I prefer Sarah with an H because it just looks more complete. Sara just looks... Eh.
