I see what you're saying, but here's my take on it- I like unique names, too, and I like to stay away from names that are in the top 1000 at all, but I'd rather a name be unique on its own, not because of an uncommon spelling. With Sarah/Sara it's not quite as important, since both are pretty common, but my name is Emily, and although I'd love to have a name that was much less common, I can't imagine what a pain it would be if my parents had spelled it "Emmalee" or something just for the sake of being different.
