First of all I miss spelled it, it's Tenley, she is a one of my preschool kids.  She is named after a family friend Tenley Emma Albright, an American figure skater who contracted polio at age 11, but won the U.S. figure skating championship in 1952 and the silver medal in the 1952 Olympics. In 1956, she became the first American woman to win the Olympic gold medal in figure skating.  In 1976, Albright was appointed to a seat on the U.S. Olympic Committee, the first woman to hold that position.
This is a picture of her.

See! Not a made up name!

Doesn't mean it isn't made up.

It just means that they didn't make it up first. =P

What's the big deal? I like it. Tenley. It's cute! Who cares if it's made up? And even better, your preschooler is named after someone pretty awesome. :)

I like Tenley and I'm all for "made up" names. My number one boy's name, Tykin, is from a dream where I had a little boy with that name. Then again, I went back and looked at your old list (I must've missed its original posting) and I liked most of your names. Hero (g) and Phoenix (b) are two of my very favorites, but they sound terrible with my boyfriend's last name.

Hey, I know a little girl (who is around 18 months old, I think) named Tenley. The name's not really my style, but I think it's cute.

I missed your last post. I would have come to your defense if I had seen it.

I am familiar with Tenley Albright, and knew that the name wasn't made up. And if I had to choose a T name for my child, I'd consider Tenley.

aren't all names made up to a certain degree?
true, i feel that some names are so way out there and shouldn't have been made up, but... whatever.

cool story :)

Weren't all names 'made up' at some point in time? I think the only way I'd dislike a name is if I thought it was ugly.

i didn't see the original post until just now when i followed where you linked it, but i think tenley is really cute. even if it is uncommon, it's a name that i wouldn't automatically assume the parents made up themselves.

while your argument that all names are made up at some point is correct, i'm still not a fan of obviously made up names. i'm all for using surnames as first names and boys names as girls names (though i really dislike typically fem names on males) but something irritates me about new spellings and new combinations, like britley, for example. i do think a lot of your names are really cute though, and as long as YOU can see the names working on the kid when it reaches adulthood, that's all that should matter.

also, i really like twilight as a middle name.

Tenley makes me think of Tetley tea (major British brand).

I'm down with Tenley, just don't try to move to Washington, DC. There's a neighborhood called Tenley(town) here.

Ten Ley means "give me" in Hebrew. Gimme. That's all I can think of.

Nice story though!
