*joins in on the fun*

So, my daughter's name is Delanie Brooklyn. Did I screw her for life?
Haha.
Oh, and if I ever have a son, Im planning on naming him Callum Taite.
Bring ON the opinions.
lmao.

Honestly?

[identity profile] miarosso.livejournal.com 2005-12-22 10:29 pm (UTC)(link)
I'd have to say yes, you did screw your daughter for life with a completely gender-ambiguous name and a kreaytiv spelling.

Callum is okay, but Taite could be simplified to, uh, Tate.

*Let it also be known that my daughter's name is Juliet, and yes, I am aware that for the rest of her poor little life, people will be saying "Where's Romeo?" and thinking it's witty.

[identity profile] castleofsand.livejournal.com 2005-12-24 12:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Do people usually make Romeo comments to you or your daughter? I am definitely naming my daughter, when I have one, Juliet but it's something I think about.

[identity profile] miarosso.livejournal.com 2005-12-24 03:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Maybe once or twice a week we run into someone with that comment. Our favorite reply is "Daddy chased him away." ;)

I'm glad I'm not the only one who loves the name, though- most people comment on how pretty it is, but no one names their kids Juliet!

[identity profile] castleofsand.livejournal.com 2005-12-24 06:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Hah, that's cute. I don't think naming you child Juliet is as bad as naming it Romeo or at least I would think Juliet wouldn't get as many comments.

Yeah I think it's the prettiest name in the world When I was little I named all my dolls Julie, but then as I got older, like 12, I decided I would name her Juliet and call her Julie sometiems.

i adore Juliet...

I like it. I really like the name Delanie/Delaney/HOWEVER you want to spell it. Put it this way - if there were four Delaney's in her class at school, what are the chances their names will be spelled Delanie?

I like Callum Taite, too, especially the second name.

These are YOUR choices, no one else's! Not everyone will like a particular name, which is why I never take it personally when someone makes fun of/disagrees with a name. You chose these names for a reason, right? Be happy with your choices :)

Not meaning to be rude, but I always thought that the logic behind yoonik names was so that you wouldn't be called, say, "Delaney B." during school. How would spelling it differently help with that (besides confusing poor children trying to write Valentine's Day cards)?

(Of course, I never got that bit of logic either. I always thought it was so freakin' cool when there was another Meagan in the class, especially if it was spelled the same as mine.)

Oh, and all that's not saying yoonik names are bad, I just don't understand the logic if the only reason they're being picked is for their uniqueness. I have indeed seen people name their children names they don't even like simply because 'no one else will have this name', and that confuses me.

What?

You mean there is someone else in the world besides me who didn't care when someone else in the class had the same name as them? The way people go on and on about how horrible it was to be "Jennifer F" had me thinking that I was really the only person in the world who didn't mind having an adjective tacked onto my name for clarification. (I've been "short Jess" or "little Jess" or some variation of that since I was 8 or so).

[identity profile] colin-chaotic.livejournal.com 2005-12-23 08:53 pm (UTC)(link)
I know! I mean, I was never given a nickname like that, but I always wanted one. And any heartache I might've suffered from being "Meagan B" (which I never was, if only because all the teachers I've had were more fond of saying "YOU! OVER THERE! IN THE RED SHIRT! C'MERE!" than using names)? Still better than what I might've suffered while looking for little novelty souveniers and the like with "Maclyzzidny". I mean, as a kid I was always upset when there were no 'Meagan' keychains, only 'Megan', and it wasn't like it was incredibly hard to find 'Meagan'.

FWIW, the two other Delaney/Delanies I have met are spelled Delanie.

[identity profile] alocin.livejournal.com 2005-12-22 10:41 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't see a problem with Delainie.. I'd only ever think it was a girls name :p

And Callum Taite is nice :)

[identity profile] opalfirefly.livejournal.com 2005-12-23 11:36 am (UTC)(link)
i agree 100 %
i love both names... i have had delanie on my list as well

[identity profile] colin-chaotic.livejournal.com 2005-12-22 10:50 pm (UTC)(link)
They're actually not too bad, considering what some people come up with. Not anything I'd ever name a child, but they are pretty.

[identity profile] turabiannights.livejournal.com 2005-12-22 10:59 pm (UTC)(link)
I actually think Delaney/Delanie is a pretty name. Brooklyn is on my naughty list, but so are all place names. Callum is all right, but I would spell Taite "Tate." Overall, no, no screwing for life took place here. Just don't name another daughter Paris or anything ;)

I'm sorry to hear that! I'm glad to know that there is meaning behind the name - too many kids these days are named something just because it sounds kewlio!!1!

[identity profile] lkw18.livejournal.com 2005-12-22 11:14 pm (UTC)(link)
i know a melanie (rhymes with delanie) and i like that better, but delanie is really cute.

and i love callum

[identity profile] anapology.livejournal.com 2005-12-25 05:03 pm (UTC)(link)
How does Melanie rhyme with Delanie..unless i'm pronouncing one wrong. Mel-uh-knee. Du-lane-ee? ehhh confuzzling!

[identity profile] ewaeva.livejournal.com 2005-12-23 04:39 am (UTC)(link)
I was going to go ballistic about Brooklyn until I read the meaning behind it.
Delanie's all right - actually this spelling makes more sense to me than Delaney which looks like it should be pronounced Dell-AY-nee.

[identity profile] ewaeva.livejournal.com 2005-12-23 04:40 am (UTC)(link)
and Callum Tate is fine without the extra e. I like it.

[identity profile] krazyhippie.livejournal.com 2005-12-23 09:16 am (UTC)(link)
I thought it WAS pronounced that way...? Or is it pronounced like Melanie? If it is, my first thought was that it was just an alternate spelling of Delaney but pronounced that way still.

[identity profile] ewaeva.livejournal.com 2005-12-23 09:49 am (UTC)(link)
That's what I thought too, because I've never heard it pronounced before! But with this spelling I figured I'd been wrong, and it actually rhymes with Melanie - which is nicer, think... But I don't know.

Anyone? Does this name rhyme with Melanie or is it stressed on the second syllable?

(I'm such a geek. Hello, fellow grad woman.)

[identity profile] lkw18.livejournal.com 2005-12-23 11:06 am (UTC)(link)
i'm pretty sure 'delanie' is pron. dell-AY-nee. i know a mell-AY-nee and i LOVE it. if i ever have a daughter, i seriously might use that on her.

[identity profile] sageharper.livejournal.com 2005-12-23 05:33 am (UTC)(link)
Hmm not something I'd use, but nothing objectionable about it. Bit late to worry now anyway.
The sentiment behind Brooklyn is lovely.

Delanie and Callum make a wonderful sibset.
Do prefer Tate without the extra i. If there's a particular reason behind the Taite spelling then keep it, otherwise it seems unecessary.

[identity profile] krazyhippie.livejournal.com 2005-12-23 09:18 am (UTC)(link)
I like the girl's name, but not the boy one at all.

[identity profile] ewaeva.livejournal.com 2005-12-23 11:32 am (UTC)(link)
Oh. I had thought so, but then I saw your version which looks like it rhymes with Melanie.

Egads! I be confuzzled.

:)

[identity profile] babyalligator.livejournal.com 2005-12-23 01:40 pm (UTC)(link)
i thought it rhymed with melanie too.
i agree with the other posters - callum tate is nice; tate without the "i" is just easier and better.

[identity profile] dionysia.livejournal.com 2005-12-23 10:47 am (UTC)(link)
Me no likey.

Sorry.

[identity profile] muliebrity.livejournal.com 2005-12-23 02:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Not big on Brooklyn, but for the sake of any future child of yours, I hope it's a girl.
Callum is an awful name, IMO, and Taite is a horrible misspelling.

[identity profile] composure.livejournal.com 2005-12-23 06:21 pm (UTC)(link)
I love the name Brooklyn as a first name.

[identity profile] thejoysofjess.livejournal.com 2005-12-23 08:42 pm (UTC)(link)
I actually really like the name Delany, the only real trouble I'd see is that I automatically go with the "y" on the end, so I assume most other people would also.

As for your future son, well I'm not actually sure you made words there.

[identity profile] elemmennope.livejournal.com 2005-12-24 05:59 am (UTC)(link)
I can live with everything but Taite. I do like Tate though.

[identity profile] castleofsand.livejournal.com 2005-12-24 12:21 pm (UTC)(link)
I think they are cute and fit together. I'm not a fan of some of the names but it works. I do love Callum though.
