I posted about my friend who had gone into labour the other day. She gave birth to a beautiful little boy, who they've been calling Jay. However, they've (parents: Nathaniel and Alice) decided that he just isn't a Jay. They've considered extending it to James/Jamie/Jacob/Jayden but have concluded that he needs a new name. The middle name will be Steven. Last name begins with B, is two syllables and ends in "ton".

Names they've considered for him:
Cayleb
Caden
Oakley
Layton

They already have Harley James, Lola Marie and Sienna Mai. Had this baby been a girl, she would have been Florrie Kate.

ETA: Baby has been named Kaiden Stephen Lennox Braxton. Not what I would have chosen, but they're happy and the baby finally has a name.

Dated name

There's a girl that comes into my place of work with her mother. The mother is a regular customer. Her son is called Harrison, which I think is quite trendy, but her daughter is called Mabel. I just can't see it as a fashionable name. It's like calling a daughter Joan, Mildred or Doreen. WDYT? Can you see the name Mabel coming back into fashion? Is it already getting there? Anyone know of any other little girls called Mabel?

What is the deal with the name London? I personally know two people who have named their baby girls London this past year. Then I just heard Tabitha and Napoleon (choreographers) named their new son London, and Jay McGraw (Dr.Phil's son) named his son London also. Is it because the name Paris is tainted with Paris Hilton so everyone is opting for the next best thing? Or maybe it's to celebrate the Olympics!

A girl I went to school with named her daughter Tenley. I heard it was a name off The Bachelorette(?), but I dunno if that was the mother's inspiration or not. In any case, ew.

A girl I work with has a daughter Kylie and a son Kingston. Ew, ew.

And some people I work with: Morgan (f) Rosaline, April, Dylan, Jeremy, Darrio, Renee, Joshua, Nicole, William, Amanda, Roger,Susan, Carrie, Alexis, Juliette and Alexander...

Renee's middle name is Ethel, which I like because it reminds me of I Love Lucy!

First off, I'm not pregnant or TTC, just daydreaming about possibilities. :)

I'm really starting to like the name Benedict. I will admit that it kind of came back onto my radar due to a certain actor, BUT I've always thought that it has a neat sound. However, in the past, I used to always think of Benedict Arnold. There's also eggs benedict. Now, I don't really care about the associations so I've added it to my list. Of course, my new nephew is Benjamin so I probably wouldn't use it just because I don't want to step on any toes and it would probably be best to avoid having cousins both named Ben. Still, I really, really love it right now.

I also like variations of James besides the name itself. Seamus has been on my list for five or so years now, but it's not one I feel like I would actually use unless I happened to marry someone for whom it was a family name and he wanted to use it. Still, it would probably be a middle name at best. The one that I have been thinking about lately is Hamish. I adore Hamish and have for years when I think about it, but I don't always remember about it because I never got around to physically putting it on my list until just the other week. Hamish is a name I would love to use whether it be a first or middle.

Finally, someone posted on here semi-recently about the name Zachariah or Zechariah. I can't remember which one it was. It sparked my interest in Zechariah again. It's a name I have liked on and off since middle school or early high school.

*** So tl;dr, Benedict, Hamish, and Zechariah: Usable in general? Usable by someone in the US? And on the topic of Zechariah, usable by someone who is not Jewish?
