[identity profile] chillinbabejodi.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
I posted about my friend who had gone into labour the other day. She gave birth to a beautiful little boy, who they've been calling Jay. However, they've (parents: Nathaniel and Alice) decided that he just isn't a Jay. They've considered extending it to James/Jamie/Jacob/Jayden but have concluded that he needs a new name. The middle name will be Steven. Last name begins with B, is two syllables and ends in "ton".

Names they've considered for him:
Cayleb
Caden
Oakley
Layton

They already have Harley James, Lola Marie and Sienna Mai. Had this baby been a girl, she would have been Florrie Kate.

ETA: Baby has been named Kaiden Stephen Lennox Braxton. Not what I would have chosen, but they're happy and the baby finally has a name.

Caleb, not Cayleb which is one of the most ridiculous spellings I've seen, is my first choice.
Caden and Jayden are horrible, overused, ghetto names and I feel this way even though my own precious nephew is a Jayden!!!!!! They can use Cade instead of Caden. I love the other children's names except Marie, I know about a dozen Maries. Florrie doesn't really go with the other names as well. I have never heard Florrie what is the meaning behind it?

"Ghetto"? Really? Could you pick a more offensive word?

When people are offended it is because they know it is the truth! I happen to live and work in an area that many consider a ghetto, so I know what I am writing about.

If you don't like my opinions then don't comment. She asked for what people thought of the names and that is what I did, so get over yourself.

I pick Layton out of their choices. Or, Oakley, it kind of goes with Harley, but it might be a lil theme-y if you over think it... I'm sick to death of Caden, and Cayleb is alright, but never been a name I really like..

Yea, I forgot about the last name when I picked Layton...

I really like Caleb, but without that y shoved in there. Not really a fan of any of the others (except Jamie) my vote goes to that one :)

I actually like those nicknames! But not the names they've chosen for their baby boy :-/

I'm not a fan of any of those (especially Cayleb spelled that way & if their last names ends in -ton, Layton seems like a bad choice), but I do like Jacob and James fine. I think James would a bit wierd since they already have Harley James.

And going on the Layton thing, anything ending in -den or -dyn would conflict with the -ton sound of their last name. I think Cade would be a nice alternative to Caden.

Other suggestions:
Andrew nn Andy
Reid
Isaac
Maxwell nn Max
Lucas
Parker
Joseph
Samuel
Zachary
Carter
Cole
Wyatt
Thomas
Jessie/Jesse
Adrian

I feel like Cayleb/Caden is way more popular than Cade or Carter, haha!

They like Lennon and Carson, yet their last name ends in a similar sounding syllable (ton)? I'm not a fan of the repetitive sounds.

Lennon is very cute but may sound off with the last name. If they like the beginning sounds of the name they can try Lennox.

My boyfriend's brother is called Jayden, but we tend to call him Jay. Personally, I love the name, but it's not to everyone's taste. I also like Caden but spelled with a K. I like Layton spelled as Leighton and Cayleb spelled as Caleb. Jamie is nice and so is James but I wouldn't use either because of them using the name James as their other son's middle name, and Jamie is a pet form of James.

If I could have any say at all, I think they should name him Kaden and use a different middle name for him, since Kaden and Steven both have that 'en' sound at the end.

I saw in the comments that they are looking for a unique name, and in that case it would be best if they stayed away from Caden or Jayden, which are horribly, horribly popular these days. Cayleb and Layton are also very trendy (Caleb because of the unnecessary Y, which is sadly a trend).

Oakley is interesting. He would definitely be the only Oakley in his class!

Here are some name ideas from Nymbler:

Rowland
Ellison
Easton
Wyatt

(I had Beckett and Benton in there, but they might sound bad with the last name.)
