Ran into a VERY interesting name yesterday... A little girl named Deviance Lylian. Love the middle name, but my jaw dropped when they told me her first name. Deviance?? Are they expecting her to be bad in the future or something? They call her Diva, for short, and to me, that has somewhat of a negative connotation as well.. WDYT?

My best friend is 6 weeks pregnant!! YAY! They already have a one year old boy who will be almost 2 when the new baby gets here. They are hoping for a girl. Dad likes Andrea and Kristen for a girl and Daniel for a boy. Mom doesn't like Andrea or Kristen or Daniel, but does like Levi, which dad hates. He thinks it will make him sound Amish. *rolls eyes* Dad also likes Brooklyn, but mom is kind of indifferent to it.
Anyone know of a good name generator?

For the record, anything with a long i sound at the end (Clementine, Valentine, etc) sounds bad with the last name. There aren't too many names like that, but I figured I'd put it out there just in case. ;)

New Baby

One of my work colleagues had a baby boy yesterday morning, three weeks early and a bit over 8 pounds (there were some issues that made them deliver him by c-section then and there, but imagine how big he would have been at full term!).  She and her husband have named their son:

Lachlan William

WDYT?  It's not my style (I'm a bit more traditional), but it's certainly live-with-able and it works well with their surname.  Overall, I think it was a good choice.

Speech impediment, limiting names?

I have a very close family member that has a slight speech impediment. People hardly notice until he points it out to them that he can not make the 'th' sound properly and he can not hear the difference between the 'th' sound and the 'f' sound (He says three and free, for example, sound identical to him). I hardly gave this a second thought until it came up in a recently family gathering (his mother still tries to correct it, the man is in his mid-twenties so it's pretty much there to stay) and we discussed names and attempted a few 'th' names to see how they sounded - I can hardly hear a difference when he says names like Theron, Theodor, Thaddeus, Ethan, but his mother, who I am not so close to, says he's 'f' rather than 'th' (so Feron rather than Theron) and now I debate whether I should leave 'th' names out of my name lists entirely for his sake and the sake of peace in the family.

He has no problems with it (He quite liked Theron, actually) so I sway back and forth. I just worry that 'those in the know' will point it out repeatedly at him and the child-to-be and cause problems/negative feelings/ awkwardness/ etc.

So, I'm not sure, what would you do?

So I reread To Kill a Mockingbird last night (one of my favorite books of alllll time), and I really like the name Atticus.

WDYT of it...for a boy? (Not sure if it'd work for a girl, but I think it could be good for a boy.)
