Any names ending in '-son' always tend to appeal as boys names for me.

The only exception is Alison

I like Mason on a boy. It ends in -son, so obvious clues right there.

So...Allison is a boy's name to you? True, it was originally, but I can't help but think any boy who was named that today would be tormented every day of his life.

Ok, Allison is my only exception. I forgot about that one.

Madison/Addison/etc. still say boy to me.

Alison was not originally a boy's name. It was originally a nickname for Alice, so it's Alis-on not Ali-son.

I have a name book that lists Alison in the boy's section as well as the girl's and claims it was originally a boy's name.

And the -son generally means "son of" anyway, I always thought.

Definity boy.

It's ruined my association for me though. I knew a little boy named Mason when I was a kid. He was a pick-you-nose-and-eat-it kid.

Boy. Boy, definitely. There is nothing "girl" about that name AT ALL.

Yes, this. Mason is just "eh" and pretty trendy, but I imagine white-trash-o-rama when I picture it on a girl.
This is probably because I used to babysit a Mason who was an absolute terror. A scab-picking terror at that. Ick.

Babynames.com can say what it wants. It's a boy's name.

I like it a lot for a boy, but I don't think I could get used to it as a girl's name.

Babynames.com is also the site that says McLovin is a real name.

For a boy, if necessary, but I don't like the name.

It has bad connotations for me, being a fan of Jane Eyre hehehe.

I saw Jane Eyre and had to think for a second who Mason was. Yes, Bad connotation, but could be worse, like St. John.

St. John's not as bad as Bertha Mason or her brother, I don't think! Not that like the name St. John either haha. Especially when you're supposed to pronounce it Sinjin. Blech.

True, Mason is worse character-wise, but I didn't like St. John so much either. Every so often on here someone will mention they like the name St. John, and I just want to scream why?!? Even apart from Jane Eyre, it's just odd to me.

I have a cousin called Mason. It does not suit him at all.

It sounds more masculine to be, but it doesn't have anything to do with the -son at the end.

totally

I love it on a boy (I went to George Mason University!) but not so much on a girl. The whole -son thing bothers me on a girl, since it means "son of."

boy.

I don't like it. It's my exs best friends name, though, and I didn't like him.
