So...Allison is a boy's name to you? True, it was originally, but I can't help but think any boy who was named that today would be tormented every day of his life.

Madison/Addison/etc. still say boy to me.

Alison was not originally a boy's name. It was originally a nickname for Alice, so it's Alis-on not Ali-son.

I have a name book that lists Alison in the boy's section as well as the girl's and claims it was originally a boy's name.
And the -son generally means "son of" anyway, I always thought.
