New Baby

One of my work colleagues had a baby boy yesterday morning, three weeks early and a bit over 8 pounds (there were some issues that made them deliver him by c-section then and there, but imagine how big he would have been at full term!).  She and her husband have named their son:

Lachlan William

WDYT?  It's not my style (I'm a bit more traditional), but it's certainly live-with-able and it works well with their surname.  Overall, I think it was a good choice.

Just to point out:

1. Be respectful when asking for or giving opinions. If you don't care for a name, express it in a polite manner.

Now, I've said this isn't my style, but it is what my friend has chosen to call her son. They are real, legitimate, mainstream names, and this comment is extremely rude by anyone's definition. If you don't like it, fine, I did ask what people thought - but EWW WTF IS THAT is neither constructive nor polite.

The first is a traditional Scottish name, I believe, and William.. well really, how more traditional are you gonna get?? :P

Well, I suppose not 'more traditional' as 'less common'. I like traditional but less mainstream names - for example, I plan to name my first daughter Anthea, which is quite an old name, but isn't worn by thousands of kids of the same age.

I suspect it's more 'not my style' because I've mentally crossed off all names being used by relatives and friends, and I have a cousin called Lachlan, rather than it not being traditional enough.

William is actually after Lachlan's father's grandfather, which is a nice touch - apparently great granddad is stoked.

well, babies gain about 1/2 pound per week, so at 40 weeks he'd be 9.5 lb, which really isn't that big, at least not cause for alarm.
